The Lipstick League – week of 10.3.14

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 16 - 2014

Question of the Week: On average, how often do you make impulse beauty purchases? What type of product is your biggest weakness?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: I’d say that about 30/70 of my purchases are an impulse/considered split.  There’s nothing quite like the anticipation of spying a product on counter and getting it into your hot little hands within 5-minutes of that first look but I know that I’m far, far more likely to be disappointed by those impulse naggings than I am something that I’ve researched to the hilt.  I almost always buy my considered purchases online too… usually because I buy them after doing my research through blogs and makeupalley etc!

My biggest impulse-weakness has to be for lip products and nail polishes… mostly because they’re less likely to disappoint than something like an impulse-bought foundation.

Clumps of Mascara has found the best nail polish top coat ever. No really, it’s pretty incredible.

EauMG – is kicking off festival season with a review an indie fruity-floral perfume roll-on that reminds her of hip Southern music festivals.

Gouldylox Reviews – Can a hot scissor hair cut change your life? Or just steal your money? I did the research to find out.

Lipglossiping – goes all out gaga for a gourmand skin treat that leaves you smelling of hot-buttered popcorn. Do you know what it is yet?

My Beauty Bunny – has teamed up with The Humane Society and beauty bloggers around the world to make a video in honor of #BeCrueltyFree week. Please watch and share to help spread the cruelty free message!

Question of the Week: Name the last beauty product that was a failure for you.

lipstickleague - final

Answer: I’ve had a few recently… from the Butter London glitter polish that never was, to the hyaluronic acid serum that smelled suspiciously of cheesy feet.  I even bought a Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Mask for my preggo dry skin that contains Clary Sage so I’m too scared to use it incase it induces premature labour. Sigh.

Chalkboard Nails – Chalkboard Nails shares her swatches of the OPI Muppets Most Wanted collection. These soft shades are great for spring, but do they really say “Muppets?”

EauMG – has put together a guide to the best smelling hair products. If you could create your own “dream” scented hair product, what would it smell like?

Gouldylox Reviews – What do you think of letting your hair go gray? Is it a trendy time to jump on the gray hair bandwagon or would you keep your bottle color no matter what? I need to know!

Lipglossiping – It may be pink, but is theBalm’s latest Cindy-Lou Manizer really the perfect candidate for cool-toned ladies?

My Beauty Bunny – shares her favorite cruelty free Radiant Orchid makeup and nail picks on eBay. Save some cash and shop her collection!

Nouveau Cheap – Squishy jellies, vibrant cremes and fiery shimmers, all in one nail polish collection that costs $6 TOTAL? Yes and yes!

Prime Beauty – has 6 hand creams to keep your dry leathery hands looking smooth and supple with options from drugstore to luxury brands!

we heart this – You simply won’t believe this insane amount of pigment and sass is only $6.49!

What was the last beauty product that was a failure for you?

Question of the Week: What’s your current favorite cream eyeshadow?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: I’m a bit boring and tend to only wear a variation of cream/beige/neutral across the lids at the minute… so something like Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Shadow Creme in Buttercreme (discontinued), Benefit’s Creaseless Cream in R.S.V.P, or when I’m feeling more adventurous(!) MAC’s Rubenesque (not adventurous at all really, eh?)

we heart this – Our current hair crush? Briogeo! This natural line works like crazy and smells amazing…and we’re giving away three products to one lucky reader (a $68 value).

EauMG – Do you have a man in your life that needs a fragrance “upgrade”? Has he been wearing the same cologne since he was a freshman rocking tight-rolled jeans? If so, tell him to check this fragrance out.

Gouldylox Reviews – Looking for a new way to wear layered hair? This bubble pony may be just the answer.

Lipglossiping – knows the way to anyone’s heart is via their tummy and Butter London must know this too. Don’t believe me? Come check out Crumpet, it’ll make your mouth water!

Phyrra – shares her Holy Grail Beauty Products. These products received her Editor’s Choice Award.

Question of the Week: Be honest: How long do you go between pedicures?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: You what?  Is this another thing that proves I’m failing at being a well-cared for woman?  I’ve had one pedicure in my life and it left me mentally, emotionally, and almost physically scarred.  I couldn’t wear shoes for three days afterward… well, I bloody had to because I was on holiday in London at the time.  I shudder even now as I think about my poor, bleeding cuticles… seriously, never again.

The closest you’ll get me to a pedicure nowadays is a pair of nail clippers and a pumice stone, I’m done with foot-pampering.

Prime Beauty – has a fantastic drugstore find in the new Maybelline Face Studio Hi-Lights blushes and bronzers. They rival higher end brands costing twice the price!

Phyrra – Phyrra shares her tips for how to gracefully grow out a pixie cut. Tips, tricks and accessory advice!

My Beauty Bunny – Did you know your hands are one of the first places to show the signs of aging? Fight back by entering to Win a Phenome Anti Aging Hand Therapy Cream!

Nouveau Cheap – As far as drugstore limited edition collections go, it doesn’t get much better than the Spring 2014 Dare To Go Nude collection from Maybelline. I got my hands on all six of the new Color Tattoos from this collection–here’s some swatches!

Pink Sith – Gets cute with two terminally cute lipsticks from the Paul & Joe Beauté Spring 2014 collection!

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Prime Beauty – TheFabZilla is written by Kath, who not only writes about makeup, but lifestyle, fitness and some inspiration thrown into the mix. She recently introduced Weekly Chit-Chats where she talks about about the real-life dramas and dilemmas of women.

Question of the Week: Is there a makeup application technique that you’ve tried to master, but just can’t seem to conquer?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: I’m still not particularly consistent with my eyeliner flicks!  I have a theory that just as I get used to the angles needed to create even flicks on my oddly-hooded eyes, one eyelid decides to droop another millimetre… throwing me off.

Pink Sith – is positively blushing at the name of the NARS Blush called “Sex Fantasy”. Not that she’s a prude or anything.

Prime Beauty – has finally found her Prince Charming…kinda. He is just one of the many calorie-free limited edition treats from the Valentine’s Day Collection at LUSH! Indulge yourself and your sweetheart with no guilt! Trust me, you’ll want to stock up.

Phyrra – Phyrra share all of her favorite Complexion Perfection products. Find a new favorite foundation here!

we heart this – Mega pores? Yeah, us too. Check out the latest from the Benefit POREfessional line and it can be our little secret.

Chalkboard Nails – created a geometric nail art look using the neutral shades from the brand new OPI Brazil Collection.

Clumps of Mascara – has come across an amazing mascara. No seriously. Too Faced’s Better Than False Lashes is one of the coolest mascaras that I have ever tried.

Gouldylox Reviews – These five hairsprays will change how you handle your hair.

My Beauty Bunny – Manis, manis, manis! Jen and friends get ready for Valentine’s Day with gorgeous nail art from Plush Beauty Bar. Come look and see.

Nouveau Cheap – Do you like the idea of long-wear lip colors, but hate the moisture-sucking properties that often go along with them? These might be just the ticket (and they’re only $3.50 each)

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Pink Sith – A simple yet lovely blog post about beauty. Here is a beauty epiphany from Alice In Nappyland and what a $1.99 lipstick taught her.

Question of the Week: Name the most expensive and inexpensive products in your current daily makeup routine.

lipstickleague - final

Answer: That’s hard to answer because I chop and change my cosmetics daily.  So, I’m gonna cheat and change the question from “makeup routine” to “beauty routine”.  The most expensive would be my perfume, the Liz Earle Botanical Essence No15 which I’m completely stuck on at the moment… and I suppose my most inexpensive would be my choice of night cream, Eucerin Even Brighter Night Cream, which at under £20, is pretty affordable for a targeted piece of skincare.

Nouveau Cheap – For most of us, Bonnie Bell is synonymous with Lip Smackers lip balms. But have you seen their new nail lacquers, lip lacquers and lipsticks? Come take a peek at some swatches–they just might surprise you!

Pink Sith – takes you on an island adventure to Kauai when she tells you all about the NARS Spring 2014 Eyeshadow Duo in Kauai. It’s 72 degrees and sunny there right now!

Prime Beauty – has two major obsessions: Makeup and Chocolate! She can get her get her fix for both with the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow Palette–it’s a cavity free sweet treat you NEED to indulge in!

Phyrra – is ready for Spring with the Kat Von D Esperanza palette! She loves it so much she’s giving one away. Open Worldwide.

we heart this – the next in the line of infamous tints is a sweet as a lollipop and as on trend as can be; check out the Radiant Orchid hued Benefit Lollitint.

Clumps of Mascara – is running her first race of the year but she’s picked the ideal lippy for her race face…Tarte’s Power Pigment!

Gouldylox Reviews – The Too Faced Chocolate Bar is sinfully delicious. Just when you thought browns were boring, think again.

Lipglossiping – ponders whether anyone would consider taking the plunge and invest in some eyebrow extensions! Well, would you?

My Beauty Bunny – Jen got a chin implant! Read all about it and why she made the decision. Plus, see the before and after pics: Why I Decided to Get Plastic Surgery.

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Nouveau Cheap – Whenever one of my lovely Canadian readers says to me, “I wish there was a blog like yours, but for Canada” my response is always, “There is!” If you’re looking for Canadian drugstore beauty info and sale alerts, check out Sparkled Beauty, written by my long-time blogging pal, Halifax. Question of the Week: Do you color your hair? If so, do you do it yourself or do you get it professionally colored? If you do it yourself, what are some of your favorite brands?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: I always do it myself, the Superdrug own range of semi-permanents are my favorite, but I tend to go one or two shades lighter than the result I want.  I use their “light brown” shade which gives me a nice ashy, not-too-dark brown result.

My Beauty Bunny – On a diet? No worries! Get your chocolate fix from the new Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette! With a mix of highly-pigmented colors in both matte and shimmer finishes it’s my new fave palette!

Nouveau Cheap – It’s been a while since a drugstore blush has truly rocked my world, but this one is so amazing that I almost want to keep it to myself (but of course I won’t).

Pink SithPantone’s color of the year is a hard to define fuchsia-purple-lavender hybrid. Whatever it is, it’s called Radiant Orchid and you have so many choices for beauty and accessories!

Prime Beauty – Can’t think of a better combination than hot chocolate and makeup and that’s exactly what Too Faced has done in their Haute Chocolate Collection. See which confection you like best!

Phyrra – shares the best from NARS Spring 2014 and the Final Cut Collections.

we heart this – our favorite 13 products of 2013 range in price from $3.99 to $415. We are equal opportunity beauty junkies!

EauMG – The results are in! Announcing the winners of Perfume Pals of EauMG Best of 2013! Thank you to everyone that voted.

Gouldylox Reviews – Wondering if the foundation from Allure’s Blogger of the Year, MaskCara is worthy of the hype? This might work for you, despite not working so well for me.  Find out why!

Lipglossiping – gets up close and personal with Clinique’s new 16 Shades of Beige Collection… but is it as dull as it sounds?!

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by My Beauty Bunny – I love reading and supporting fellow cruelty-free beauty blogs and one of my very favorites is Logical Harmony. Founder Tashina recently cleared up an issue I’ve been pondering as well: Are Products Sold in Airports in China Cruelty Free?

Chalkboard Nails – Emma Watson’s daring Dior Couture dress/pants combo from the Golden Globes inspires unique color blocking nail art!

EauMG – For those of us that don’t look great in purple, Victoria has put together a perfume guide that will still have you rocking Pantone’s Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid.

Gouldylox Reviews – New Light Catching Lip Colors from Bobbi Brown are too pretty to pass by! Can you even pick just one?

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Lipglossiping – Safiyah’s FOTDs and eye tutorials always impress but her head-turning use of MAC’s Copper Sparkle in this one blew me away!

The Lipstick League: Week of 6/1/14

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 12 - 2014

Question of the Week: What were some of your favorite blog posts that you wrote in 2013?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: 2013 wasn’t a great blogging year for me.  Like the girl with a little curl, when I was loving it… it was very, very good, but when I was off form, it was horrid.  Having said that, I still managed to squeeze in 311 posts over the last 12 months, so it couldn’t have been that bad!

My favourite posts are usually the ones that make me laugh to myself in a “finding yourself hilarious really isn’t the done thing” kinda way.  Either that or the FOTDs that make me look prettier than I really am and those moments when a camera really captures the beauty of a product.  C’mon, I’m a girl, with a makeup blog. This shit matters!

So with that criteria ringing in my ears, I’d have to submit this (my favourite nail collection of the year), this (because I fell asleep that night still chuckling) and this (I couldn’t find a FOTD of me I liked v. much, so have my girl crushes instead!) as my favourite posts of last year.

Gouldylox Reviews – Want to look chiseled without the workout ? All you need are the right colors to look like you’ve been hitting the gym.

Question of the Week: Do you switch up your skincare routine with the change of the seasons? How are you preparing for the cooler weather?

Nouveau Cheap – I rarely declare something a new “Holy Grail” product, but in the case of this facial cleanser, it’s so good that I haven’t wanted to reach for something else in months.

Pink Sith – thinks raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens is cool and all, but she would rather tell you about her favorite Oils for face, hair, nails and body.

Phyrra – tells you how to get sublime skin with Cover FX CC Cream Time Release Tinted Treatment SPF 30!
