Do not adjust your set…

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 12 - 2010

…apologies for this break in regular post scheduling but a couple of things…

1). I’ve noticed I’ve been missing a couple of questions by you lovely lot, I’ll be going back through comments this evening and answering any that I’ve missed!

2). It seems that my international ladies are finally receiving their Advent Giveaway prizes – wahoo! Hope you like them!

3). I’m going to London Fashion Week, please tell me that it doesn’t matter what I wear right?

4). Not only have I been missing questions, but my emails have been haywire too!  My hosting company has switched my account to a new server in the hopes that the problems settle down.  Either that, or just to shut me up… If you’ve emailed and I haven’t replied, I probably didn’t get it.  Please resend!

5). I’ve got another giveaway coming up, don’t get too excited.. it’s nice but not amazing… however, free stuff is free stuff right?

6). Was there a 6?

7). Oh yeah! My hair mare post… thank you for all your jeering, sniggering and downright bitchiness 😉  I have loved reading your stories and will be re-reading them tonight with Mr. L.  Together we’ll pick the worst (or is that best?) and get in touch with the lovely Aussie ladies. If you’ve yet to confess your hair shame… do it now, or forever wear a hat!

8). Leila is poorly, the little mite caught my cold.  It’s all my fault, but babies shouldn’t be allowed to catch colds until they’re old enough to know how to blow their noses.  My baby-nose-picking finger is getting a work out!

She’s doing her ‘monkey face’ but you can see her eyes are a bit watery. Can I get an “awwww”?  She’s 9 months old on Tuesday… I can’t believe how quickly time has flown!

My New Digs!

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 11 - 2010

I work from home and my workspace has been stupidly crowded for as long as I can remember.  You know the scene, papers piled high, things ‘filed’ under other things…

I finally got a new desk and have been able to get my priorities straight and move all my makeup RIGHT NEXT TO ME! OMG!

You have no idea how little proper work I’ve gotten done since I moved my makeup within playing distance.  Mr. Lipglossiping is wondering when the book-keeping is gonna get done.  Right after I finish playing with this lipstick dear…. (or like, NEVER! – mwuahahaha!!)

Ain’t it spacious? *spreads self across desk*

Those drawers on the right.  That’s proper grown up pay the bills work stuff.  The rest? MAKEUP and SKINCARE and NAIL POLISH and HAIR STUFF and all the other important things.  I better do some work, I can feel a *side eye* from Mr. L. burning a hole in the back of my skull.

Share your hair mares!

I’ve already told you about my triangle hair… and my spiral perm from 1992…

Now it’s your turn…

Aussie, Agassi and me want to hear about your hair mares!

Go on, tell me about your nightmare ‘dos!’

If I get five horror stories I’ll upload a pic of the spiral perm.  And let me tell ya, it makes Agassi look coiffured to perfection.

Is it that you are a minger?

Wondering whether you should be throwing out that favourite discontinued lippie lurking in the back of your drawer? Cosmetic guidelines have always been quite stringent with regards to shelf life…

Judy regretted not throwing that old cream foundation away…

Do you follow the guides?

Have a look… (red denotes how long it takes me to dump stuff)

  • Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year (if it looks/smells and feels ok, I’ll still use it)
  • Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months (12 months… I have a “thing” about cream compacts)
  • Concealer: 12-18 months (if it looks/smells and feels like new, I’ll still use it unless it’s in a compact…)
  • Powder: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Blush and Bronzer: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Cream Blush: 12-18 months (12 months… it’s the whole compact thing again)
  • Powder Eye shadow: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months (compact? 12 months)
  • Eyeliner: 2 years (gels – till they inevitably dry out, pencils – indefinitely)
  • Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months (um, till they run out?)
  • Mascara: 3 months (till they run out or become unworkable – yes, cardinal sin I know!)
  • Lipstick: 2 years (till they get that funky crayon smell)
  • Lip liner: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Lip gloss: 18-24 months (yeah, probably no more than 2 years)
  • Nail Color: 1 year (till they become unworkable)

I think that a little common sense goes a very long way in situations like this.  If you live in a warmer climate, your cosmetics aren’t going to last as long.  If you buy mostly natural products containing less preservatives, you’re going to want to have a clear out more often.  If you share your cosmetics with your sister or best friend, then I’d be far more vigilant.  If anyone touches mine… they die.  I say trust your nose!

The oldest item in my collection is this 6 year old Bobbi Brown Palette:

My eyeliner obsession started with my Bobbi Brown Shimmering Eye Kohl palette which I bought back in 2004… I’ve dropped it twice (as you can tell – sob)

Tell me about your oldest cosmetic item? What is it and why do you still have it?

IMATS London 2010 – In Pictures (Part 1)

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 1 - 2010

The day started well.  I slipped on a patch of ice outside Ally Pally and landed on my bum.  In front of people. Elegant-looking people.

My bag (containing my camera and lens) fell to the concrete and my fat bottom did the best iPhone-crushing impression it could muster.  Thankfully no phones or DSLRs were harmed in the making of this blush-inducing moment.

As intended… myself and some of my fellow IMATS London comrades were at the front of the queue ready for when the doors opened.  It was an EARLY start (you may have read my bleary-eyed tweets) but looking at the queues later on that morning, I’m so glad we made the effort.  Plus, it meant we made our purchases at the OCC, MUFE and Crown Brush stands before the crowds were 4 deep!

On with the show…

IMATS London 2010 – I’m here! I’m here!

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 30 - 2010

Well… I hope I am.

This post has been scheduled from earlier in the week… and by the time it pops up on your blogger page or in your google reader I’ll hopefully be hammering down the doors to Alexandra Palace shouting “Lemme in!”

Hey! Interesting fact… did you know that the world’s first public broadcasts of television were made from Alexandra Palace in 1936?  No… see, never feel guilty lurking about on Lipglossiping.com… it’s not just about the makeup.  You get an educashon here too 😉

So anyway, IMATS!

Word on the grapevine is that IMATS London 2010 has outsold any other show in IMATS history.  It’s gonna be busy!  Which is why I’m there when the doors open, ‘cos heaven forbid OCC runs out of lip tars before I get my snout to the counter.  I will not be held accountable for my actions I tell thee!

I’ll be tweeting ‘live’ from the show like the sad git I am, so if you wanna read what I’m getting up to and see some shoddily taken iPhone photos along the way, then make sure you’re following my twitter feed!

Much love, me xx

…On All Lacquered Up’s fantabulous blog.

I submitted my favourite “mannequin hands” polish and got featured – whoop!  Only other sad bastards will know how exciting this is, so if you don’t ‘get it’ – it’s ok, you’re officially cool.

If you do… I’m sorry, there must be a support group out there for us somewhere right?

IMATS London – Enkore Makeup hits the Main Stage

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 14 - 2010

Sunday morning at IMATS promises to be a belter.

Koren from Enkore Makeup will be in attendance, offering a class on the “Wonders of Pigments”.

The blurb from the schedule reads:

Learn the advantages of carrying pure oxidized pigments and minimizing the amount of products in your pro kit. This class will show you how to quick-mix custom-blend foundations, using minerals for airbrush application, and how to custom-blend concealer, lipgloss/color, mascara, liner, and nail polish in seconds. A quick application technique with these custom blends will also be demonstrated.

As one of the most subscribed-to beauty gurus on You Tube, Koren knows his pigments from his primers and his reputation practically guarantees a great class.

Catch Koren at IMATS London on Sunday 31st January at 10.30am on the Main Stage.

Why I don’t read beauty magazines…
