Butter London Spring/Summer 2011 – Teddy Girl NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 30 - 2011

If pastel pinks are your thing, you’re in for a treat!

Now… I don’t wanna get too cultural about things (says the lady with the degree in Cultural Studies) but DUDE! What’s with calling a Mod Pink “Teddy Girl”… tsk.

Names aside, Teddy Girl is a very striking pepto-bismol pink creme that needs a few coats to rescue it from streaksville.  This isn’t uncommon with these ‘white-out’ shades but it is irritating nonetheless when you get pretty good cover from the first coat.

Once any patches have been evened out, wear is perfectly adequate and the shade is super-striking.  I love combining it with a black outfit to really make my nails POP!

Butter London – Teddy Girl is is available to buy online now from PowderRooms priced at £11.95

5 of the best… Moody Blue Nail Polishes!

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 24 - 2011

Ok, so these aren’t necessarily ‘moody’ but I didn’t know how to describe them.  I love blue polishes and wanted to do a comparison post showing some of the blues in my collection that are a little different to the norm.  A little greyer… a little more… stroppy.

Some of you were also keen for me to elaborate on potential dupes for Butter London’s new Lady Muck polish.  I’m afraid I came up empty handed on that score!

1. Essie – Sag Harbor
2. Eyeko – Rain
3. Butter London – Lady Muck
4. Butter London – Victoriana
5. Barielle – June Bug

A close up so that you can see the finish of each polish.  You can see that the HTF Essie Sag Harbor and Eyeko Rain are definitely quite close in appearance.

Yesterday I was also asked about the differences between BL Lady Muck and Victoriana.  Hopefully you can see that they’re worlds apart.  Barielle June Bug?  Well that’s just a fun odd ball!  Incidentally, I wonder what’s happened to Barielle’s Spring/Summer collection… anyone know if there is one?

.

What are your favourite ‘odd’ blues to wear?

Butter London Spring/Summer 2011 – Lady Muck NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 23 - 2011

I told you I had some rather special Butter Londons to show you – how about this one from the new Spring/Summer collection?

Lady Muck is described as a powdery periwinkle blue, slightly on the grey side and infused with pearl pigment for a soft, sexy sheen.

It’s a gorgeous alternative shade for those of us who don’t go for the screaming brights and Easter Egg pastels that are on offer.  Yes, it’s quite a toned-down shade that wouldn’t look out of place in a Winter collection but the silver pearl really lifts the dustiness and gives it a more floaty, ethereal look.

No complaints with either application or wear… there’s something about these greyed-out shades that seem to give me ridiculously good wear.  Very strange but always welcome!

Butter London’s Lady Muck is priced at £11.95 and available to buy online from PowderRooms

Butter London Spring/Summer 2011 – Dosh NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 18 - 2011

Ahhh, now wouldn’t we all like a little more dosh to see us through this Spring/Summer?

Described by Butter London as a molten apple green shot through with metallic gold, I’m happy with that description.  On my skintone, it’s not as vulgar as OPI’s Sit Under The Apple Tree which still gives me nightmares when I think back to it.

DOSH is a far crisper, punkier and more vibrant affair.  The metallic shimmer is micro and v. pretty in a gentle non-chunky way.  No chips but a bit of tip wear by the third day and the above photo shows two coats.

If you’re a fan of greens, you’ll probably want to add this to your collection… if not?  Hold out for a peek of some of the others because there’s some surprising stunners.

Butter London DOSH is available to buy online now from PowderRooms priced at £11.95

Butter London – No More Waity Katie NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On March - 5 - 2011

I’m spending the day in Windsor today (official home to the Queen) so I thought that Butter London’s No More Waity Katie would be a very fitting shade for my nails!

A dirty mauve packed with lavender glitter… looks absolutely nothing like it’s promo picture!

The mauve base is awfully sheer… and this polish doesn’t make for a pretty sheer.  In my opinion it ‘needs’ building up and for me, that meant 3 coats on most fingers and an extra one on two of them that still appeared patchy.

The glitter is well… it’s just glitter.  Yes, it’s a nice colour combo and you know I love my dirgy shades but I think I was hoping for something more spectacular… imagine a dirgy version of All Hail McQueen with it’s super fine glitter… yeah, that.

The finish is rough and will need more than one application of top coat to remove the grittiness.  It’s a more understated glitter than most and one that I’d even go so far as to class work appropriate!

Overall, it’s not as regal as I’d hoped… but regardless, it’s already a sell out!

And if you want to get your hands on this limited edition shade, Powder Rooms still has stock!

Finger Bands courtesy of Butter London

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 11 - 2011

How much do we hate it when we look down at our fresh manicures to realise that yet again, we’ve managed to daub more polish on our fingers than we got on our nails?

Well, worry no more ‘cos Butter London set the scene at Vena Cava yesterday for a forward-thinking, fabulous faux pas that’s achievable for anyone with a nail brush (and an unsteady hand!)

image stolen borrowed from Nonie Creme’s twitstream here

Check out the finger bands painted by Nonie with some of the bestselling Butter London shades!  Such a fun touch, much cheaper than hunting down the latest high-street jewellery and at around 24hours, probably longer-lasting too 😉

Wanna see my late-night take on the trend?

Shades used: Marrow, Scoundrel and Come to Bed Red!

If you give it a go, make sure you play safe and only use Big 3 Free polishes in the creation of your finger art masterpieces.

I love anything in beauty and fashion that doesn’t take itself too seriously and this daftness reminds me of being at school and tippexing the crap out of myself in an ‘artful’ manner…  and anything that reminds me of those playful days is a win in my book.

What do you think of Butter London’s Vena Cava Finger Bands?

Butter London – Pearly Queen

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 8 - 2011

I would love to tell you about this shade, but I’ve drunk 3/4 bottle of really cheap, crap merlot and it’s taken me a good 5 minutes to make this sentence readable.

What’s that Mr. L?  Vogue are onthe phone?  They want to employ me?  Tell them that I charge double for posts this shiteous.

Right, let me put a bit of effort into stopping these letters dancing around the monitor.

Pearly Queen reminds me of everything I wanted OPI Moon over Mumbai to be… but in less coats.  3 coats gives the elegant finish shown above (though 2 will do if you don’t mind a slight VNL)… and it really is elegant and elongating with a pretty satin finish.  My nails feel proper lady-like without being frou frou or bridal.

Pearly Queen is available to buy online from PowderRooms, priced at £9.75

Butter London Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 3 - 2011

Butter London say: Straight from the Fashion Week runways, the butter LONDON Spring/Summer 2011 Collection was inspired by the many colourful “impressionist” style prints that graced catwalks from New York to Paris. Designed by Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme, the new collection is reminiscent of Monet’s palettes, with the inclusion of an opal overcoat that lends ethereal beauty to any shade.

BLAGGER
Colour: Striking cobalt blue.
Definition: A person with a silver tongue; a charlatan.

HEN PARTY
Colour: Sheer opal lacquer that is neutral and stunning alone and on-trend as an edgy overcoat on top of any shade.
Definition: British term for a bachelorette party.

LADY MUCK
Colour: Powdery periwinkle blue, slightly on the grey side and infused with pearl pigment for a soft, sexy sheen.
Definition: A term for an arrogant, conceited woman; a snob.

DOSH
Colour: A molten apple green shot through with metallic gold.
Definition: British slang for money or cash. “Can have a bit of dosh, love?”

TEDDY GIRL
Colour: A pale retro bubblegum pink, featured on the catwalk of a top Brit designer for S/S 2011.
Definition: “Teddy Boys & Girls” was a youth culture movement in Britain typified by teens fighting, drinking, shagging, and fighting some more.

The collection launches around the 1st March and will be available to purchase online from ThePowderRooms and instore at Harvey Nichols.

A very Royal wedding polish! Butter London – No More Waity, Katie!

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 21 - 2011

Butter London have just announced a new nail polish shade to coincide with the Royal Wedding this year!

“No More Waity, Katie” will be a limited edition shade released late spring, named for the popular tabloid play on Kate Middleton’s perceived patience as she waited for Prince William to pop that all important question!

Described as a greyish/blue glitter infusion, I can’t waity (see what I did there? smooth…) to see how this looks in person.

More information on release dates and potential pre-orders at PowderRooms as and when I have it.

I’ll take any excuse for some new glitter-infused nail polish shades thankyouverymuch!

Butter London – Come to Bed Red NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 9 - 2011

As well as being partial to a good red lipstick, I’m also partial to a good red nail polish.  The best for me are those slightly retro creams that command attention and make you feel just that little bit sexier everytime you spot them!

Butter London’s Come to Bed Red not only has an awesome name… but it’s an awesome red too!

It has an almost jelly-like finish which means that you’ll need an additional coat to ward off a visible nail line but on the flipside is it’s supreme shine and sweetie-like appearance.

Do you like your reds to be as bright as this?

Butter London Come to Bed Red is available to buy online priced from around £9.75

Butter London Fash Pack NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 17 - 2010

Oh noes! I don’t like it!

I can probably count on one hand the number of Butter London polishes I’ve tried and disliked.  This would fall into that sad category.  I had cuticle drag with this one… you can possibly see the remnants on the middle finger at the base (where it looks kinda streaky).  This meant that although in most places it was completely opaque after 2 coats… there were patches that demanded a third coat to finish off.

Everything else I was happy with… formula, drying time, glossiness… so it’s a shame I don’t really like the colour either.

Fash Pack is infused with the most delicious micro golden-sparkles… very similar to how China Glaze’s Ingrid looks in the bottle.  And in the same way, I think that this is what ruins it for me by making it too warm (yet grey at the same time).

Warm and Olive toned ladies, this might be a really great choice for you.  For me, it’s a boob.

You can buy Butter London Fash Pack online from PowderRooms

Butter London – Tramp Stamp NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 12 - 2010

Butter London’s Tramp Stamp is a rich, dark chocolatey shade which leans toward the plum.  It’s a gorgeous Winter shade which would look lovely on tidy, short nails rather than my talons (which have since had an extreme trim!)

When a creme is done well, there’s nothing that can really beat it is there?  Look Ma, no top coat!  Glossy and luxurious looking, this is one brown that is anything but dull.

I found the formula, application and all that stuff to be fine… a touch of cuticle drag on the 2nd coat which needed a 3rd just to cover it up, though in fairness I was a litttle hasty in application and the 1st coat may not have been quite dry enough.

Butter London’s Tramp Stamp is available to buy online from PowderRooms priced at £9.75
