A little TKMaxx splurge on random goodies!

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 31 - 2013

I love TKMaxx more than I love almost anything. Whenever we nip into town, Paul takes L off to the nearby kids play place for an hour and laughs at me because he knows what’s coming before I’ve even opened my mouth…

“I’ll just catch up with you, I’m just gonna pop in here first” I say, gesturing wildly and excitedly at the entrance to TKMaxx.

You see, it’s a bit like one of those Lucky Dip boxes at school fetes. Except you don’t even have to pay 50p to see what they’ve got in stock!

My usual modus operandi once in store, is to head straight for the beauty bits. In our local store, this area seems to get less stock each time I look which makes me do a sad because I bloody love rummaging around the red stickers, glaring disapprovingly at other shoppers who think it’s ok to swatch on the spot. There’s a special place in Hell for people who swatch, spritz, or dig their nails into stock in TKMaxx. I hope it’s extra hot.

So anyway, beauty bits first… then home stuff… candles mostly. Where our TKMaxx is light on the beauty stuff, it goes heavy on the candles. There are always lovely bits from Bahoma, English Eccentrics, Parks, Jonathon Ward, Tocca, and various unknowns that only reveal their true delights when you have a sneaky sniff.

Finally, I move on to the kitchen stuff… I bought all my Circulon pans from TKMaxx, slowly building up my collection as and when funds allowed for it. Anyway, here’s what I treated myself to yesterday.

IMG_2689

First up is the beautiful candle from the National Trust.  One sniff and I was sold, Beechwood and Bramble is gorgeously green without being fresh… it’s earthy, damp-smelling, woodsy… it’s a bit like Diptyque’s Feu de Bois but with some blackberry sprinkled in for good measure.  I love it so much, that I logged straight online and bought the matching EdT when I got home!

I spotted my new iPhone case from a mile off, well… in that colourway, you would wouldn’t you?!  The coral/orange chevrons screamed at me from across the aisle.  It’s from US Brand Agent18, really good quality and you can log-on to their website and download matching wallpapers for most of their designs.

IMG_2690

Korres offshoot Kings & Queens remain one of my favourite “toiletry” brands, I may have mentioned this one or 574895 times before!  Usually I see sets of showee-gel minis on the shelves in TKMaxx but whenever I see a full-size product, I’m hard-pushed not to pounce on it.   The shower gels are my favourites but there will always be room in my bathroom for a Tsar Peter Tobacco Soap!

IMG_2691

The Zirh Warrior Collection shower gels are actually aimed at a more masculine audience but I fell in love with the zingy citrus scent and couldn’t resist adding it to my basket.  I umm’ed and ahh’ed between this and some verbena bath salts (beautiful glass bottle, to-die-for scent) but I don’t take many baths!

IMG_2693

My last acquisition was Jamie’s America which I nabbed after seeing some reviews online which talked about how he’d taken the oft-maligned US cuisine classics and showed how they can shrug off their “junk” food labels.  Waldorf Salad prepared with low-fat yoghurt for one.  The recipes are diverse and the photographs inside, beautiful.  I know Jamie’s been working his hardest at making himself look (and sound) like a massive tool recently, but my soft spot for him is showing no signs of firming up!

What was the last thing you bought in TKMaxx?

Food Friday: Stuffed Marrow (just like Deirdre used to make)

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 30 - 2013

If you’re British and don’t get the popular cultural reference in the title, shame on you.  If you’re not British, and do… you’re amazing!

When I was at my local farm food shop last week I spotted a barrowfull of marrows, they were selling them off at 60p-a-piece.  I’ve never had marrow before, stuffed or otherwise… at 60p, I felt that I couldn’t go wrong.

I googled for some recipes but decided that I’d go for the old tried, tested, and somewhat derided route of stuffing it.  Instead of cutting the marrow into two long “boats”, I decided to slice them into 1.5″ thick rings and stuff the middle of those instead.  To my eye, it just looks a little more modern.

The great thing about marrow is that… it doesn’t really taste of anything.  You might think that this isn’t such a selling point, but it absorbs the flavours of whatever you combine it with beautifully.  I felt that combined with the stuffing mix I prepared in the recipe below, the marrow tasted a little like fluffily boiled potatoes (but without the uber-carbs!).  A truly delicious meal.

The recipe below makes enough stuffing mix for the amount of marrow you see in the photos (6 slices, not whole) with enough leftovers to stuff a further two large peppers.  It’s great for cooking up on a weekend and refrigerating a portion for later on in the week.

Stuffed Marrow_1

You’ll need:

500g turkey mince (or any mince you prefer to use)
85g sage & onion stuffing mix
1 marrow
2 onions
1 carrot (shredded
1 tin chopped tomatoes
a glug of worcestershire sauce
1 tsp chilli paste (or chilli powder)
1 heaped tsp of garlic paste (or a couple of cloves)
1 lvl tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (not pictured)
100g green lentils
Water

1 pitta bread broken into breadcrumbs (I prefer the crunch pitta bread gives)
60g grated cheese

Stuffed Marrow_2

Rapidly boiling the lentils for 10 minutes before turning the heat down and continue to simmer for around 30-minutes.

Stuffed Marrow_3

Fry off the turkey mince (I used a couple of sprays of frylight to coat the pan first) and add your spices (coriander & cayenne pepper).

Stuffed Marrow_4

Add the onions, carrots, garlic paste, and a good glug of the worcestershire sauce and allow to simmer for a couple of minutes.

Stuffed Marrow_5

Pour the chopped tomatoes and stuffing mix on top and stir to combine the stuffing mix.  Have a jug of water ready, you’ll need to topup the pan as the stuffing mix absorbs the liquid. You can use a stock cube in the water but I didn’t have one to hand and it was fine.

Stuffed Marrow_6

As your mince is cooking away in the background (keep checking it for water levels, you want it dry-ish but not enough to stick or burn!), it’s time to prepare your marrow.  Marrow might seem like an awkward vegetable to prepare but it’s incredibly easy.  Simply slice of 1″-1.5″ thick pieces, as many as you need.  Using the tip of the knife, cut out the middles and discard.

Stuffed Marrow_7

They should look like the above photo once you’ve finished.

Stuffed Marrow_8

Drain your green lentils once they’ve finished cooking and add them to your stuffing mix, combine well.

Stuffed Marrow_9

Take a baking tray, a sheet of greaseproof paper, and your Frylight spray.  Place the empty marrow rings evenly onto the greaseproof paper and fill with your stuffing mixture.  The mixture will shrink down a little as it bakes so make sure that you fill them generously!  Top with the pitta crumbs and grated cheese.  Lightly spray the rings with some Frylight and pop into a pre-heated oven (200°C/400°F/Gas 6).

Loosely cover the baking tray with foil, try not to let the foil touch the top of the rings (or your cheese will transfer!).  Bake for around 30-minutes, remove the foil and pop back in the oven for another 10-minutes until the top is browned.

Stuffed Marrow_10

They should come out looking something like this!

Stuffed Marrow_11

For me, these are a whole meal in themselves… they don’t need anything to accompany and three slices of stuffed marrow was incredibly filling.  Some people are happy to eat the skins, I didn’t like the texture so sliced mine off just before eating.  Either way, don’t peel your marrow before you cook it, the skins hold everything together!

I do hope you try this one while marrows are still in season.  It makes for an incredibly cheap and filling meal, healthy too!

* Weight Watchers – I pointed this recipe at 9PP per portion for the minced stuffing mix (the whole recipe makes 4 portions of stuffing mix)

False nails have long been overdue a bit of a comeback.  Remember when you used to stick a set on for a big night out and then wake up the next morning with one glued to your cheek?  Ahhh, happy memories….

In recent times it’s been all about the stickers, foils, decals, and whatnots… the poor old falsie has taken a bit of a back seat!

Shy, retiring types need not apply but I do have a bit of a nail crush on Heart Breaker, that painted tip shape is something I could only dream of being able to apply with actual polish.

Red Lipped Readers – Part #14

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 29 - 2013

Leila’s never been much of a runner. While most small children tear around, barely pausing for breath, Leila plods. She’s a plodder… slow and steady wins the race and all that. The thing is though, I worry that she will be left behind (literally) when she starts school next week. All the other children will be swinging from the monkey bars, tearing up the playing fields and Leila… well, Leila will be taking the slower, more reserved approach to playground antics.

I’ve been taking Leila to the playground A LOT recently and trying to teach her how to climb things. Obviously this isn’t something I want to do in full view of other parents so we’ve been going just before bedtime. Above all else, it’s taught me that she gets her lack of athletic ability from me. Having said that, we’re nearly there with “how to make the swing move without Mummy pushing it” and “how to navigate a Jungle Gym so that you can climb down a ladder without screaming for help”.

What can I say? As a baby she didn’t crawl or bum-shuffle either.

Anyway, what does this have to do with red-lipped readers? Well, not a lot really but all this outdoorsy stuff has ensured that I’m well aware of how quickly the seasons are a-changing. Formations of geese flying overhead are an almost nightly occurence, noisy things… and let me tell you, something tells me they’re heading South. I’m lamenting the darker evenings that are already drawing in but I am getting a wee bit excited about chunky knits and red lips.

So much so, that I thought it might be high time for a little more red-lipped reader inspiration…

1. Ami from Tall Shopaholic is looking berry-licious in this glossy number from Body Shop’s soon-to-be-discontinued Colour Glide line.  The shade, should you want to acquire it before it’s too late, is #22 Garnet.

2. Solangel ensures that the temperatures don’t fall too quickly with MAC’s ubiquitous Chilli which complements her NC43 skintone perfectly.

3. Sophie from from Sophiephiephie keeps all eyes focused on her lips (although I’m lusting over her gorgeous brows too!) with Revlon’s Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in Top Tomato.

4. Kat from Tales of a Pale Face takes the old classic MAC Russian Red out for a spin and proves that sometimes, you just can’t beat an old faithful!

5. Heidi from Black Kohl proves that MAC’s Russian Red really does suit every colouring and goes all out Snow White, looking every bit the fairytale beauty.

Balmain Ambre Gris EdP review

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 28 - 2013

Ambre Gris is the latest addition to my fragrance wardrobe, which by the way, is steadily growing larger than my actual wardrobe. Exposing my horribly shallow heart to you, I will readily admit that I was first enticed to this fragrance because of the bottle.

It’s a thing of beautiful contrasts with its smoky-grey, monolithic-looking flacon, simply labelled yet topped off with an outrageously camp discoball-esque cap. It’s lovely. It feels heavy, like you could bludgeon someone with it should that urge take you. It’s impressive, it makes a statement… and that’s just how I like my perfumes.

Pierre-Balmain-Ambre-Gris

Launched in 2008, the notes include: pink pepper, cinnamon, tuberose, immortelle, myrrh, gaïac wood, benzoin, white musks, and ambergris.  On paper it looks like a spicy oriental with a heavy helping of wood and a dusting of sweetness.  In reality… well, that’s mostly accurate.

Opening with a sharp exhalation of pepper, the fragrance delivers a punch of spice with the kind of brusqueness you’d expect from a mean, elderly Aunt.  This isn’t your usual youthful pink pepper, fruity concoction but something with a little more heritage to accentuate its spiky manner.

Before long, the fragrance warms up on the skin and the cinnamon turns sweeter while the tuberose gets down to business knocking away the sharp edges left, right, and centre.  I’m not the world’s biggest fan of tuberose, it’s a note that often leaves me feeling as though I need to come up for air and there is a certain synthetic sickliness to this fragrance that I’m blaming on the tuberose, but thankfully… not enough to require a snorkel.

Up until this point, I like Balmain’s Ambre Gris… but I can’t say that I love it.

Pierre-Balmain-Ambre-Gris-2

All this begins to change roughly twenty minutes after application.  The smoother tones ushered in by the tuberose make way for something warmer and more comforting still.  The scent wears ever more closely to the skin as the vanillic benzoin curls around my wrist and the ambergris imparts a soft, animalic property that tempts me back to my pulse points over and over.  At this point, it feels more like a unisex fragrance but with an inherent sweetness that glazes over the woody notes and gives the scent a gourmand grounding.

It’s less smoky than I’d like, cleaner than I’d want, and sweeter than I’d usually crave but it feels like a bridge between my old perfume-loving tastes and the new.  In that respect, it really does feel like a comfort.  Take Dior’s Hypnotic Poison (my old uber-fav) and throw some curveballs at it.  It’s not as sexy as Hypnotic Poison, nor is it as overachieving… but it is a nice interpretation of a classier, more grown up woody-oriental that keeps its edge and lasts long, long into the night.

Balmain Ambre Gris is priced from £42 for 40ml and is available to buy in-store at John Lewis and online at Escentual.com

The Lipstick League – week of 19.8.13

Question of the Week – Do you ever fall into a beauty rut? If so, what types of things help to pull you out of it?

lipstickleague - final

Answer: – Yes, but I kinda like my beauty ruts… they only come about by gaining confidence in the fact that a certain “look” flatters me.  That’s never a bad thing!  I usually get experimental again after a wee while without the need for any intervention!

Prime Beauty – has stars in her eyes after reviewing the stunning Dior 5 Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Constellation…satin stars, shimmer stars, purple stars…oh my.

Phyrra – shares her Makeup Wars Favorite Hair Tools. Find out her must have items!

we heart this – want you to know your skin CAN handle the truth. Ole Henriksen’s Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil to be exact.

Beauty Junkies Unite – gives you an early peek at the newest member of the Benefit blush family, Rockateur.

Clumps of Mascara – is modeling a sweet pink nail polish with her baby girl.

EauMG – tries the juiciest, ripest peach in the ‘fume world, a new limited edition perfume by Providence Perfume Co.

Lipglossiping – explores 5 reasons why your hairdresser hates your guts! Are you guilty as charged?

My Beauty Bunny – This week I revved up my lips with Too Faced’s Lip Injection Color Bombs. Check out the swatches of the six new shades of this hydrating and plumping lippie.

Nouveau Cheap – “Revolutionary” is a strong word, but what if I told you that you could combine two manicure steps into one and achieve a really cool nail look at the same time? Meet the new Orly Matte FX Matte Flakie Top Coats.

Do you ever fall into a beauty rut? If so, what types of things help to pull you out of it?

What’s in my bag? The boring edition.

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 27 - 2013

I do love other blogger’s What’s In My Bag posts.

Probably for the same reason that I get all hot under the collar when Through The Keyhole gets repeated on Challenge, the truth is… I’m nosey as hell.  Not in an intrusive, knock-on-your-door-always-in-your-face kinda way… more of a stalkerish, I’m-gonna-check-out-all-your-facebook-friends kinda way.  Don’t think I don’t know your IP address.

So anyway, there I was… getting all seal-clappy about doing my own What’s In My Bag… because, after all… four years is a long time for a blogger to go without doing one of these posts…

…when all of a sudden, I looked in my bag and got the blog wobbles.  You see, there really isn’t anything of interest in my bag at all.  Put it this way, I’m not about to unearth some wonder-product that I, as a beauty blogger, ardent ignorer of trends, swear by.  Life’s just not that interesting.

But I’ve snapped the photos… and I’ve already written about 200-words, so we’re both stuck with it.  Christ, even my bag is boring…

whats-in-my-bag

My bag, from Oasis (a shop with shoes so hot) is a lovely dark chocolate leather with magenta lining.  It’s a bit of a mum bag to be fair, cross-body style with a substantial zip so I can perform various death-defying tying shoelace stunts without spilling the contents across the pavement.

whats-in-my-bag2

Told you it was boring… but at least it doesn’t look like Cath Kidston puked in it.

01: Kleenex Balsam. When nose-grating tissues just won’t do.

02: My prescription.  I finally got my inhalers sorted out at our new surgery just in-time for my annual under-used pre-payment prescription thingy to run out.  And so now I’m carrying this around in my bag, umm-ing and ahh-ing about whether to renew my PPC or just stop taking my medication. (I jest).

03: Selly’s Loyalty Card.  Most of these are in my purse but I just got my brows threaded and this slippery customer didn’t get tidied away.  I think I get a free blow-dry or something when I fill ‘er up and Selly’s is my favourite place to go locally for some sharp, non-poncy threading.

04: Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Thriller*.  It’s sheer enough that you can apply on the go without being so sheer that you needn’t bother.  I’ve got a FOTD type post coming up on this later on this week.  £22 from SpaceNK.com

05: iPhone5.  Hate myself for being so utterly addicted to this thing.  Love it more than chips.

06: Mason Pearson hairbrush.  This one’s Leila’s… mine is bigger, muckier and much, much older.  I steal hers though because it fits in my bag so neatly.

07: Herbacin Glycerine Hand Cream.  I use it on my cuticles, it’s nice for keeping in your handbag because it’s not too heavy and doesn’t leave huge amounts of residue behind.  The tin is stupidly cute and it costs £1.50 from John Lewis.com

08: Lidl Receipt.  Keepin’ it real… I’m glad that the photo is too small for you to see what I bought.  Oh ok, it was nail polish remover (in bulk) and bourbon whiskey (not in bulk).

09: Purse.  Tattered, in need of a new one…. stuffed with receipts, sadly not money.  I always go to TKMaxx for my purses, they’re always BIG and boringly plain in style.

10: Lush Solid Shampoo.  I can’t go into town without nipping into LUSH, I just can’t.  I really enjoyed using Jumping Juniper and asked the SA to recommend me another shampoo for my greasy roots/dry ends combo.  She did, and I ignored her and bought Seanik instead, £5.50, LUSH.co.uk

11: Miller Harris La Fumee EdP.  I’m ringing in the end of Summer with this beautiful smoky scent from Miller Harris.  It’s so dry and intoxicating, I can practically feel the crackle in the air.  £65 from Escentual.com

12: Lanvin Me EdP*.  I’m carting this sample bottle around with me at the moment because I’m trying to get to the bottom of it.  It’s a juicy, fruity, woody concoction that smells more grown-up than most but probably not enough to entice me over to the dark side.  £49 from HarveyNichols.com

13: Children’s Hair crap.  Various shades of pink and/or red usually.

14: Coppertone UV Protect Perfect UV Cut Cream SPF50/PA+++.  I love Coppertone sun protection and this one is great for light-feeling, no-compromise face coverage.  I don’t usually wear SPF50 at any point except for high summer despite my uber-pale skin, so this one will be superceded by an SPF30 soon enough.  Bought from the 99p shop, if you spot one, buy one but do make sure you test it before entrusting your face to it – I don’t know how old their stock is but I haven’t had any problems with my purchases in the past.

15: Magnetic Reception Year Words.  Just bought it, haven’t taken it out of my bag yet.  I’m trying to expand my vocabulary.

Spend or Save? The morning after the night before!

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 24 - 2013

If you’re in the UK, happy Bank Holiday weekend! It’s like, the last one until Christmas, so make the most of it. I thought it might be rather apt to share a couple of hangover remedies on the blog today. Nope, we’re not talking three rashers of bacon and a fried slice (although, I wouldn’t say no)… I’m talking about being prepared and getting your supplements in order!

spend-save-hangover-cure

Bet you can’t guess which one is the cheapest can you?

Just kidding.

Faust’s Potions (£5.99, cultbeauty.co.uk) promises to deliver a two-step approach to a heavy night out.  Incorporating a blend of vitamins, minerals and herbal extracts to gently stimulate and assist alertness throughout the day (or a restful night’s sleep depending on which potion you take).  Reviews on Cult Beauty are positive and the uber cute vials remind me very much of something straight out of Alice in Wonderland!

Dink (£2.99, dink.co.uk) may lose out in the style awards but it more than makes up for it with its appealable price tag. Combining Phospholipids, Amino Acids, Vitamin C, Vitamin B’s and Dextrose, the capsules (you take all of those pictured) will help supplement the body whenever alcohol is consumed and replenish lost resources that will help aid liver recovery and speed up the breakdown of acetaldehyde, a toxic by-product of alcohol metabolism.

Of course… neither of these remedies should give free license to act like a bellend (YOLO etc.) and drink yourself into a stupor.  But, if you’re the kind of poor soul (obviously did something heinous in a previous life) who does suffer the most ungodly of hangovers, these might just make your return to the land of the living, that little bit more bearable!

What are your favourite cures for the morning after the night before?

Food Friday: Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 23 - 2013

My Nan was a pastry queen, all she had to do was look at a packet of flour for it to turn it into the richest, most buttery pastry known to man. I’m genuinely awful with pastry, I can’t leave it alone… I play and mess about with the dough too much until it’s as tough as boot leather. Probably for the best if I’m honest, were I a bonafide pastry queen like my Nan, I’d be at least 4st heavier than I am today. Every cloud and all that…

It’s to this end that I often ditch the pastry cutter and buy ready-made and the one I reach for most frequently is filo. It’s kinder to the waistline than shortcrust and puff… a little can go a surprisingly long way, satisfying that pastry craving without undoing a week’s worth of hard work.

I wanted to make a lighter quiche that would see us through a weekend of can’t be bothered to cook days.  Something that I could slice up and eat cold, enjoying it just as much as I had when it had been warm.  Quiche was the thing!

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_1

The cast of characters:

1 packet of Jus-Rol Filo Sheets
A handful of walnuts
2 whole eggs
3 egg whites (I keep a tetrapak of Two Chicks egg whites from Waitrose in my fridge)
2 large onions, sliced
50g blue cheese, crumbled
1 Tbsp butter, melted (I used Clover because I’m a phoney)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp natural yoghurt
1 tsp Dijon mustard

Grab a heavy-bottomed pan and add a Tbsp oil, sliced onions, and the brown sugar.  On a medium heat, cook the onions for around 45-minutes until soft, aromatic, and caramelised.  Keep your eye on them and stir frequently, if the heat is too high… they will burn.

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_2

Lightly spray your flan dish with oil and lay your filo sheets into the dish, brush each sheet with a little melted butter before layering additional sheets until the entire dish is covered with a generous overhang at the edges.  You may need to cut your ready-prepared sheets into smaller squares before layering.

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_3

After 45-minutes, your caramelised onions should look something like this…

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_4

Grab a bowl and prepare your filling.  Preheat the oven 190° (180° fan).

Combine the eggs (both whole and whites), yoghurt, walnuts, blue cheese, mustard, and any seasoning you want (I only added black pepper) and mix until well-combined.  Add the caramelised onions into the egg-mixture and continue combining.

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_5

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_6

Pour the egg-mixture into the flan dish and gently fold the loose edges over the filling.

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_7

Bake in the centre of the oven for around 25-30 minutes.  The centre of the quiche should be firm, the pastry should be crispy.

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_8

Serve with a side salad… YUM!

Caramelised Onion & Blue Cheese Filo Quiche_9

If you have any leftover pastry… no one would blame you for making some little filo tarts!  I just filled mine with some sliced apple, raisins and a tiny squeeze of honey over each filling before pinching together the “tops”.  I used a standard muffin pan to bake them in.  So good!

Do you have fun with filo?  Have you ever made a filo quiche?  It was much easier than I expected!

Rooney Mara for Calvin Klein, you gorgeous, GORGEOUS woman!

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 22 - 2013

Rooney Mara is the face of Calvin Klein’s latest fragrance release: Downtown.  I’ve just spotted the ad for it on You Tube and it’s so brilliant, I wanted to see what you guys thought of it too.

I think it does the whole “aspirational” perfume ad thing really well but keeps it a bit more real than most, along with being impossibly glamourous, the ad also shows Rooney swooning over a puppy and playing with a bunch of kids on the set.  She’s got that 21st century Audrey Hepburn vibe down to a fine art and…and…and… why can’t I be her again?

Anyway, tell me what you think…

The fragrance itself sounds interesting, Downtown is described as an everyday scent with notes that include: Tunisian neroli, gardenia petals, and Texan cedarwood.

On paper, I should like it but the few reviews that I’ve read talk about sweetness, pink pepper, and being aimed at the yoof crowd.

Damnit Calvin Klein, she’s wearing a kick-ass leather jacket and embracing the rain… you can’t disappoint me!

What do you think of the ad?  The fragrance went on counter in the UK yesterday and is available online at escentual.com… have you tried it yet?

Essie Glamour Purse NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 22 - 2013

I’ve got another classic polish on the blog today, can you tell I’m starting to make some headway through my stash of untrieds?  I’ve got a long way to go but it’s been fun reminding myself of all those impulse purchases that got bought… moved from place to place before being lost and relegated to the back of the drawer!

Essie’s Glamour Purse is from their Fall 2011 collection, and while some may call it a taupe… I’ll stick to my usual description of greige.  I tend to favour these cool-toned greiges over their warm-toned taupe counterparts, they simply suit my skintone better.  Essie is probably one of the least-represented brands in my collection, I used to hate the stick-thin brushes that took an age to cover the nail bed – thankfully these were changed to a wider style sometime last year but I’m yet to have a love-affair with the brand.

Essie-Glamour-Purse

The formula was ok, a little thin perhaps, and it needed three coats to fully eliminate some streakiness.  It dries to a beautiful finish… reminds me of a milky hot chocolate.  And when has that ever been a bad thing?

Essie Glamour Purse is priced at £7.82 (in the sale) and available to buy online at beautybay.com
