The new range of lipsticks from French makeup maestro Francois NARS have launched into Selfridges. Priced at £18 each, the NARS Pure Matte Lipstick range promises intense, stay-true colour.
But that’s not all…

I haven’t tried any of the shades on my lips, but did swatch a couple at a recent press day.

I clearly remember Bangkok (the rose), dragging on the skin of the back of my hand as I swatched, so I’m not sure how that would apply to my lips… though to be fair, the tester could well have dried out a touch after being open for however long. By contrast, Tashkent glided on without too much friction burn 😉
Are any of these calling to you? I must admit that Vesuvio and Terre de Feu look like wonderful Wintery options!

Do you have any idea how they compare with the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils? I adore the matte pencils and wear Sex Machine almost on a daily basis so I wondered if there were any shades similar to that in the new product line (Sex Machine is a mauve/pink), and how the textures compare.

Thanks anyway for replying so quickly. The Nars VM pencils are really lovely and come in a great colour range – I am a bit of a collector! If I end up giving in and buying one of these new Nars pure matte lipsticks I’ll drop you a line if you like and let you know if there is much of a difference between the two X
On promo pics alone I would have gone for Tonkin, but I think Bangkok may be the one for me looking at your photo’s. Regardless of the blurb i’m still not convinced they won’t dry my lips out.
The lipstick doesn’t look too matte in the promo picture, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t make it look as matte as possible…
The colours look a lot more matte in their housing and swatched. However, I thought they would be a bit more pigmented, unless all matte lipsticks are like that? I’m a lipstick noob as you know.
unfortunately the only two which I was interested in were the ones you thankfully swatched, one is too orangey and the other too mauvey for me :((

Terre de Feu and Vesuvio look amazing! I’m a sucker for rich mattes, however, £18 seems a tad extortionate to me. Plus, NARS products rarely agree with me :/

I really like the way they’re packaged – I find long, thin lipsticks easier to apply. However, none of the colours are grabbing me. xx

We’re all avid readers of lipglossiping in the HQhair offices.
Just to let you know the Pure Matte Lipsticks aren’t an exclusive to Selfridges we will also be stocking them on October 1st. We already have some samples in the office and are tipping Bangkok and Tashkent as the faves! They are also doing a colourless one just for the hydration benefits for those of you not so keen on lip-colour!
We’ve tried them on in the office and the colour has definite staying power although we must admit the colours are unusually safe for NARS but they’ve made up for it with their new Nail Varnishes… very excited about them! Have you seen them?
I bought Bangkok!
I have super dry lips and it doesn’t feel dry at all. The only time it felt dry was after eating a huge burger :), but I put little bit of gloss in the middle and it felt/looked great. The colour is so pigmented and LOVE!! I can’t wait to get more.
