I have comitted a cardinal nail polish sin, for which I’m being punished.
Don’t store your nail polish on it’s side kids.
For the love of everything brightly coloured and infused with solvents, listen to Oprah:

But even more importantly, listen to Oprah’s commenter… Jeff1967 (at the very bottom of the page).
Any tips? I can’t shake ’em… that induces bubbles! Do I just keep rolling endlessly?
Try adding a tiny bit of nail polish remover to it and then give it a good roll/shake.
NO! You never EVER add polish remover! Only ever add thinner, which is NOT polish remover. It will ruin your polish.
This has happened with some of my polishes….I didn’t know you couldn’t shake them! I plunge the brush in and out on the bits I can’t shake….bet thats a broken rule too! Oops!
x
I’m a shaker. Sorry.
I always shakes, never done anything other and not had probs?
Eek, I usually store my nail polish in a big jumbled mess and tend to have this happen more than I’d like to admit!
I usually rectify it by turning the bottle upside down and rolling quite vigorously between my hands, or alternatively gently tipping the bottle upside down and then right side up again several times until the polish is combined again. I’ve been using these 2 methods for years and have never had any problems with bubbles yet (touch wood!) 🙂
If you want to use it, shake it, wait at least 10 minutes and then use it. I had something similar with Orly’s Charged Up, gave it a good shake and it was as good as new- even tough I didn’t store it horizontal.
I just store all mine in a big wicker basket, they are all just thrown in together ha. Never experienced this though. It’d be impossible for me to stand mine all up right, Ive got no space at all for them 🙁 How are yours stored? pic please!
But are you sure it hasn’t got something to do with heat and the sun?
Poor Jeff1967. He’s just a lost soul looking for a home… *bless*
I think its perfectly fine to shake lightly and roll a bit after that to get the air out. I’m a beauty therapist and that’s what I’ve been doing for years with only one issue of bubbles from shaking too vigorously.
Also, I’d like to point out that even if the polish bottle is sat flat on its bottom, the colour will separate at the top just the same and the same treatment is required to mix it again. A tip I think is important is to keep the bottle rim clean so the lid shuts properly otherwise it can make the polish dry out a bit quicker and get all gooky and icky*.
*technical terms, them.
Shake shake shake Senora! Shake your body line… Shake shake shake Senora, shake it all the time.
(Oh I do hope you have seen Beetlejuice!)
I also think, shake. I’ve been doing it for years with no problem.
or maybe how about adding a teeny amount of thinner and slowly rolling?
I never knew you couldn’t shake!
I’d say rub your hands together until they’re warm and then roll. For some reason I see warm hands as being better at rolling than cold.
Ehhhh, just shake ’em :p As long as you don’t use them *right* after, you should be fine! (They are VERY cute, by the way! I just love the mint green one.)
Shake shake shake, then just stand them up for a while. All bubbles will disappear eventually. Done it countless times. x
I just store them all in a bag – and I shake them! x
Shaking’s fine, the bubbles will disperse.
xx
*covers eyes*
Get some polish thinner – OPI do a good one, or Seche restore – and add a few drops, then shake. Keep going til it’s restored to its former glory. Please don’t try and use remover – it won’t work as well.
Shake then tap them on the table so all the bubbles come to the top?
All of mine are like that, it’s just because they sit for long periods of time.
I shake them, take the top of and and tap it off the table to get the bubbles to rise to the top.
I find this happend alot with my cream nails inc nail polishes and to get around it i store them in a box tightly together and flip the box once a week if you know what i mean. One week I have them standing on there bottoms the next week I have them standing on there tops.
Worked a treat with mine.
When i first noticed my polished where separating like this I did the flip thing once/twice a day for a few days just to get them back to normal faster and the once a week flip is like my mantiance.
Darn it. I’m guilty of this too. I thought it was altering the product but I was in denial. I now need to find a better way to store them and I have no idea!!! Suggestions on a postcard please…
Just don’t shake right before polishing. Don’t be afraid to shake them up, just let it sit for awhile after, there will be no bubbles in your mani. I always shake my polishes and never have bubbles – if you do, there are other possible causes like too thick coats, or air drafts while polishing.
Right… well if you lot all just shake ’em up, I will too!
I thought it was some kind of huge No No to give them a rattle! *shakes*
That’s better!
Shake them! It’s a myth that you can’t shake nail polish, any bubbles will settle.
Shake it and then give it a little while to disperse bubbles and you’ll be fine.
Awwww poor nail polishes! 🙁 Let us know which solution worked for you!

Just roll them between your palms until the stuff mix back together. Actually I kinda shake mine and they turn out ok after a few minutes of letting the liquid settle. :s
