DIY Gurus, I need your help!

Posted by Lipglossiping On June - 9 - 2010

Put down the hammer, I don’t need any shelves straightening…. it’s these things I need help with:

Twenty neat little eye sheet masks (£1.50) that I picked up from Muji the other week!

Tell me, what can I soak ’em in to make me look 10 years younger?  I also have some of the face size ones too… all suggestions welcome!

The only thing I can think of is boiling up some green tea and letting it cool… there must be some other great DIY concoctions for sheet masks and the like?  I’ve done a quick Google, but I’m mostly finding thicker, gloopier type mask recipes.

Any of you wizards got any cool ideas?

rice water! watch michellephan’s diy face stuff, she has some cool ones!

  2. rhamnousia says:

    Rosewater!

That’s what my mum uses when she makes her “at home eye masks” and the amount of wrinkles she has under her eyes is criminal..in that a lady of her age should have more!

Mix it with a litte water, let the pads soak and whack them on

Apologies for the over usage of the old exclamation button..

In other news, I’m am now stalking out items I “need” to buy from Muji.

er, you couls soak some liz earle eyebright in them maybe witchhazel or rosewater too

  5. D says:

Milk, green tea or you can do what I do and just soak them in your favourite toner with a few drops of face serum plopped in for good measure – I use vitamin c serum and a moisturising toner.

  6. D says:

(I wouldn’t use witchhazel, anything astringent is likely to either irritate or dry out your eyes)

  7. Roxanne says:

I’ve heard potatos are great for brightening. Maybe soak potatos in water and throw those in two? Or like, wet it and rub raw potato on it or something..

  8. Janice says:

For little undereye masks like that, I would suggest dipping it in milk and coffee. Coffee will help depuff the under eye circles and milk will help soften the skin. Hope this helps!

  9. Lizzard says:

puree some cucumbers, pehaps a drop of extra virgin olive oil

good luck! let us know what you choose

  10. carla says:

I have used lush toner tabs with the face ones before

  11. kyanvi says:

soak with any toner you like then cover up with aloe vera gel. that’s what lots of asian ladies do. but personally, i like soak up some toner and leave them on for 10mins.

  12. I’d try some caffeinated tea- cooled of course. The chamomile will help to soothe your skin, and caffeine reduces puffiness- you could even soak the masks in the tea and freeze them- the chill will further shrink under eye bags.

If darkness is your main issue, try licorice extract- I’m sure you could find licorice in tea at a nice tea shop, but you can also buy the extract straight and add it to your concoction yourself- just make sure you dilute it enough so that you don’t irritate your eyes!

Licorice also helps to reduce redness, swelling and itching, so it would be a good additive to the face versions as well. For the face, I’d mix it in with some buttermilk (this is a great use for close to or past-expiration milk, since the older the milk is, the more lactic acid it contains. Buttermilk is cultured, so it contains more to begin with- so does yogurt and sour cream.) If you’re dry, add a bit of gylcerin for a lightly exfoliating, soothing and hydrating mask.

I didn’t actually know that you could buy these masks un-treated, now I may have to go & try some of these potions myself! (Much neater than using a washcloth)

  13. Sarah says:

I hope the potato suggestion was a joke? It’ll suck all the water out of your skin cells and make them puff up like nobody’s business!

  14. Shruti says:

i agree about the tea, not so sure about the coffee. and yeah, yogurt helps lots too…it’s always better to use colder products since the coolness reduces puffiness and refreshes you. 🙂

  15. Shifa says:

Use it with Liz Earle Eye Bright hun 🙂

  16. jacqlibra says:

From what I learnt from Japanese magazines and various Asian blogs, you should layer some eye serum or nourishing eye balm underneath the mask, (a little more than you’d normally use), then put on the mask.

I’d suggest soaking the mask in the most gentle face toner you have on hand, or rosewater, etc 😛

  17. Roxanne says:

Sarah, I’ve used potatoes with no puffy results. And as a gal that’s allergic to cucumbers (oh yes, learned that the hard way), they’re a nice cooling alternative.

  18. Ashley says:

You can brew a cup of chamomile (did I spell that wrong?) & put the tea bags in the freezer & use those as soothing & depuffing eye masks or soak the eye pads (iPad, ha ha) in the tea. Except, cool the tea in the fridge!
Or soak the eye pads in black coffee (again have it refrigerated).
