…I was talking to a friend on twitter last night who happened to mention that she was about to request a couple of Pop Beauty Eye Cakes in an international swap…
I practically shouted DON’T DO IT!
I can generally work with most products, but these Eye Cakes are probably one of my biggest cosmetic disappointments ever. I mean, look how beautiful they are in their tins… From left to right: Violet Eyes, Naked Blue Eyes and Brown Eyes.
What a fabulous idea too, naming the pans by what colour eyes they’d suit best.
So what’s to hate, Pop Beauty have a fairly decent reputation, you get 12g of product for an original RRP of £12 and you can often pick these items up for a great price (around £6 ea) on discount websites, which is exactly what I did…
And there’s the problem.
That’s Violet Eyes, swatched heavily. 3 passes on those darkest colours and about 5 on the white which you can’t see at all.
The other two I have are simillar, the best of a bad bunch is the Naked Blue Eyes tin ‘cos that matte brown is a beautiful crease shade.
None of you will ever want to buy these off me in a future blog sale now will you? Doh!

it’s too bad they’re such crap products because the colours look wonderful and the packaging looks cute.
as for recent disappointing purchases, i’d have to give that award to revlon photoready foundation. none of the shades matched me (and i spent half an hour to make sure) and is too sparkly for my taste. i’d have to say it’s only a minor disappointment though because i find mixing it with my mac foundation gives me a better shade match and tones down the sparkle (as i mentioned on my review, i don’t fancy looking like a twilight vampire :p).

Ohhhh I had the blue one years ago, still got it actually and loved one of the colours so much I hit pan on it, didn’t use any of the others just the one shade. So yeah… I’d probably buy it off you haha.

What a shame! I hate eyeshadows with no pigmentation. These looks really promising too. Ah well! x
I like the way the product is that crap, there is not even watermarking on there ^_^ What a let down, such a gorgeous concept, such a poor pay off. This should be illegal.

Feel the same way about the Victoria Jackson blues in my survival kit…i just photographed swatches on my eyes. How come a lot of blue shadows (minus pro brand ones) are so hard to blend among bargain brands? Something about blue…even mom’s smashbox blue in her Mother Earth palette suddenly turned grayish and hard to blend.
Whats worse is that not all shades are like that. So you buy one like it.. buy 4 more and then go ‘whatttt?’ ugh I have two really pigmented ones and then about 4 tins of sheer rubbish going in the bin today whilst i do my cleanout

How strange, the Pop Blush Cakes (that are packaged like the eyes ones) are great – maybe that’s because you don’t necessairly want masses of colour on your cheeks though?

I remember years ago I bought a couple of Pop cream eyeshadows, in the same sort of tins, I only got round to chucking them out recently, but they were quite poor quality as i remember- ok for teens i’d say, as they’re cheap, but other than that not great.
What a shame the pigmentation is so bad! They looked so cute in the tins.

I wholeheartedly agree, these things are terrible! I snagged the peach cake for 5 dollars at Winners a long time ago and I was so disappointed upon trying it out. At least the peach tones are versatile enough that I can get away with using it as an extremely subtle highlighter.
Are they any good wet? D: they look so cute, and I totally wanted some before this post, haha
I’ve only picked these up for younger makeup lovers since I know their mothers won’t worry (in fact, I think they would prefer it) if the pigment isn’t good.

i have one of the eye cakes too, but you are supposed to used them wet. the pigmentation is way better, but it’s still not that great of an eyeliner….might as well use better pigmented shadows as eyliners
