Lidl makeup. Would you? Have you?

Posted by Lipglossiping On April - 18 - 2013

German supermarket chain Lidl have recently expanded their beauty range to include some new makeup bits and pieces.

Now, I’m no snob.  Well, I am… but not to the extent of being completely unwilling to try new things.  Hell, I do half my food shop at Lidl and if it’s good enough for my stomach, it’s good enough for my face.

Except for the foundation, I mean… look at it.  I can’t even…

Lidl makeup. Would you? Have you?

Nail polish, mascara, and lipstick though… get in my trolley, I’ll happily have a play!

Have you tried any of Lidl’s new makeup range?  I already have a few staples from their wider beauty range (though I didn’t really *get* the recent perfume hype), so I’m looking forward to trying these bits out if I can find them in my local store.

How much of a makeup snob are you?

I haven’t tried any Lidl’s makeup but some of Aldi’s is pretty good, even the foundation 😉

I love Aldi’s make up range- their nail polish and lipsticks in particular. The packing is nice too.
I haven’t tried the Lidl range, but their nail polish remover with the pump was very, very good.

I’ve also tried the Aldi foundation and it’d a pretty good one! While the palest shade is a little too dark for me day to day I used the darkest one for show make up and it’s great!

Here in Canada we have Joe Fresh, which is a clothing at makeup line sold at a grocery store chain. Their makeup is actually really good – great cheek and lip products, decent eye products. I haven’t tried their face stuff. In general, I’m a snob about packaging but not source. If it’s nice and minimalist and costs $4, I might buy it. If it’s all flowers and glitter and tacky, for the same price, then no.

    ‘4 Light Brown’
I’d probably only give the nail varnish a go to be honest.
I tried the perfume everyone way ‘raving’ about and its really not great.

eh, nooooo! I don’t like Lidl or Aldi for food, Lidl being the worst offender of the senses . Just that yellow colour in store gives me nausea. I like a bargain like anyone, but their buying and operating policies, their cheap veggies which have been in frozen storage, their aisles of highly processed food, cheap german electronic gadgets, scratchy slippers, oh dear god no.

    • LOL Mary!

I’ll agree that their veg can be hit or miss (though I don’t really find it much worse than most supermarkets and in the Summer it’s the only place I can buy Lambs Lettuce without remortgaging!)

I need to start using the market seller that comes to our local community centre!

      BUT…

You obviously haven’t tried their: jam, gammon steaks, washing detergent liquid, strong bread flour, passata that’s actually thick enough to make a sauce from, tins of chickpeas, greek yoghurts, tomato soups that taste tomatoey instead of metallic!

Having said that, I’ll also admit to enjoying some of their processed stuff (everything in moderation!)

Mmmmm… chips (and fudge, and…. french wine and… ok, I’ll stop there)

I can’t shop there at all. My Mum use to pick me up from primary school holding armfuls of Lidl bags, which east London youth in the early 1990s thought a step too far. Cue relentless teasing and a lifelong inability to shop there. This doesn’t stop me from eating their sexy ice cream selection whilst at others’ houses though.

  7. Hannah says:

Haven’t tried Lidl but Aldi’s under eye concealer pen is really good for the money. The case alone looks work more than the few quid it costs.

  8. Leigh says:

Aldi’s nail polishes are great as is their waterproof mascara. The lidl nailpolish remover is great but i prefered it before they brought in the pump bottle.

  9. Jenna says:

Well, I wouldn’t have thought of buying my make up at Aldi, I am not keen on their food. Will give it a go though, just wonder if you will always be able to get it as thay tend to only stock many things infrequently.

  10. Sarah says:

    “Light brown” lol.

The Cien nail polish remover with the pump is the best packaging I’ve seen in the UK. I refill my one with other removers and it’s been going strong for over a year.

  11. Eva says:

Oh I’m not really much of a snob, I like cheap brands because I like to play around with the colors and stuff so I don’t want to buy expensive makeup. We don’t have Cien makeup here in Slovenia, but I tried a mascara and a lipgloss in a similar store Aldi (it’s called Hofer here). I was pleasantly surprised and I would probably buy Lidl makeup too. 🙂

  12. Dolly says:

Out of all the items the foundation is the best! It’s better than many £10-15 offerings. It sinks into the skin beautifully and does not clog when powder is added. I have trouble finding suitable colours for my pale skin but the light is just perfect. I get loads of compliments on my skin when I wear it. I wear lipstick everyday, but I’m afraid the lipstick is a little drying. I don’t like the texture of it. The mascara is passable also. The nail varnish is great.
