I’m starting to wonder if and when Butter London are gonna run out of these cutesy “British” slang terms… I reckon that when inspiration is at its lowest ebb, someone in the office sticks an episode of Only Fools and Horses on the DVD player. “Alright me old china?” <— Butter London Spring 2016 name right there. Naturally, the polish would be an off-white cream, somewhat like a glaze. Can I make money doing this? Hands up if you’d give up EVERYTHING to name nail polishes for a living.
Butter London Shag from their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection is a clear nod to the season’s hues. Reminiscent of fallen Autumn leaves (before they’ve turned mouldy), with a dazzling metallic finish that glimmers beautifully in the late afternoon light. Well, what little we have of it.
The formula on this one was a dream and the above photo shows two coats – the polish applied smoothly and dried to a shiny finish, the above photo shows no top coat. If you had the opportunity to conceive a Butter London polish, what would you call it and what would it look like?
Butter London Shag is priced at £11.95 and available to buy online at www.thepowderrooms.com
I would love that job!! It would be especially fun working for Butter London as they make products for the American market so you could make up an entire vocabulary of pretend English words and give them meanings, that would be so much fun! It is also a gorgeous polish and makes me wish the only Butter London I own wasn’t Wallis, which I love so much in the bottle but hate on my skin tone.
We have the discussions about Ikea’s naming process – my partner reckons they have an internal competition to see how random a name you can give a product and get away with it!
I change my nail polish shade weekly and I don’t think I would like to ‘fess to my all male colleagues in their 50’s that the shade this week is “Shag”
Talking of which, I don’t think the colour suits the name. Shag should be purple with glitter. I have decided.
My googling of shag to confirm that it should be purple was probably a little stupid though. I was shocked to see localshags.com. Surely not?!
Such a pretty color, i love it!
This is really a lovely shade! The only name that pops in my head is “Over Easy” for a bright orange but maybe this already exists, I’m not sure.
Shag just makes me think of the horrible 70’s shag carpeting that was originally in my house…never have I seen such ugly brown floor covering. I think I would make up words to name polishes (and hence likely get fired)…like Perfloof – shimmery pinky peach duochrome. Or Mandafrandakerpopple – indigo with violet and gold shimmer.
As irritating as the Butter London Britishisms are, they’re better than the OPI awful puns. My dad makes better jokes than that.
This color works so well on you! Not sure how flattering it’d be on my skintone, though. I’d be a terrible namer for Butter London – My knowledge of British culture is pretty much limited to that whole king and queen thing and dizzee rascal
I’m surprised that they haven’t used ‘Sarcasm’, ‘Cheers’, ‘Blimey’, ‘Fanny’, ‘Agony aunt’,’Lovely’, ‘Pissed’, ‘Barmy’ yet 😛
I would love to sit around thinking up names of polishes all day, whoever gets to do that genuinely has one of the greatest jobs alive. Up there with those women who get to do ‘sports’ massages on rugby players.. *drifts away in a daydream*
