High-Tech Waxing: Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll On Kit Review and Video

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 23 - 2011

I’ve never waxed in my life.  Well, no that’s not entirely true, there was this one time my Mum did a bikini wax on me while I lay on the table in the conservatory.  It left me bruised, bleeding and I swear more hairy than when she began.  You don’t want or need to know the back-story but let me tell you, it was far from successful.

And so I felt a tingle of fear when the Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll On Kit* dropped through my letterbox last week.  It’s waxing gone high-tech with a self-heating unit that dispenses a film of wax as you roll it over the skin.  In theory, this should eliminate all that messy spreading.  In theory.

I’ve done a short video that shows how you put the kit together and then Mr. L made me do a video of my first proper waxing experience.  I think it’s payback for that little episode of cardboard craftiness the other day (it’s STILL not finished btw!)

The kit is simple to assemble and contains comprehensive instructions.  I’ve demonstrated setting the unit up for use in the video below.

Once plugged in, I waited just over 20 minutes before attempting my first leg wax!  Wanna see how it went?

Overall, my feelings on this device are a bit mixed.

Priced at £29.99 (with refill cartridges costing £9.99 each), I can see this being a good investment for a regular waxer over the cost of say, wax strips.  I did find that although overall, the unit dispensed the wax fairly evenly there were a couple of patches that seemed to skip and get less wax, leaving a few hairs behind that needed a second go to remove.  I’ve since used “ready to use” wax strips on the other leg to achieve a fair comparison and I have to say, the wax strips did a more complete job – but also hurt more and felt like an expensive way to remove hair.

I didn’t compare to the traditional ‘heat the pot in the microwave’ style simply because I’m not interested in that kind of faffing and messiness, I’d rather buy a razor to be honest.  The refills are supposed to last for 4 waxing sessions, making them much more economical than strips but probably still more expensive than the old-style pots.

My final feelings on the Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll On Kit is that although it doesn’t offer the ultimate solution to at-home waxing, it does offer another alternative that could prove popular for regular waxers.

The Veet EasyWax Electrical Roll On Kit is available to order online at Boots.com priced at £29.99.  There are only 300 available during this pre-launch period, so don’t hesitate for too long if you’re planning on snapping one up!

Do you wax?

Props to you Charlotte for undergoing the wax in the name of blogging. It’s one treatment I can’t stand to have done thanks to early traumatic experiences! Now that we have IPL I don’t think I’ll ever be trying out any waxing treatments. x

  2. Ashley says:

    “This is fun!”
That’s exactly what I said when I tried my first at home waxing kit!

It seems to me this kit is less mess than traditional pots and the applicator applies more evenly too but was it tricky cleaning the applicator itself?

  3. Poornima says:

This reminded me of the wax thingie which The Body Shop had a while back. The same thing, but you had to dip the cartridge in hot water and then apply.

Like you said it is quite useful for regular waxers..

  4. Robyn says:

I *do* want and need to know that back story. I only waxed once – bikini line as well – and it was such a bloody disaster. Literally.

  5. Brittany says:

I’ve never waxed before but even a newb like me can get down with this.

  6. Maryam says:

Haha charlotte that was funny to watch! I’ve had so many different parts of my body waxed before, including bikini (ouch!), usually the fear of the pain is greater than the pain itself. Back home I can get my entire arm or leg waxed for 10-15 pounds and the smoothness (especially underarms) is unparalleled when comparing to a razor! but in london its just too bloody expensive!! Im seriously thinking about getting this, but im crap at self inflicting pain so i might have to get one of my girlfriends to help out, after a glass of wine or two. x

  7. Simona says:

If you like the idea of waxing, epilating would be perfect for you. It’s a lot less messier, and you can find epilators for around the same price. Perfect for removing hair on your legs, underarms, arms, even facial hair; though i wouldn’t recommend it for the bikini or ‘that’ area.

  8. Saara says:

Lol, I wax pretty regularly and this seems like a bit of a waste of money. You can get a professional waxing set including wax (a bit tub), strips, the wooden sticks, lotion and cleaning fluids for about 40 pounds- they even sell them in argos- definately a better investment!

  9. Nero says:

I have this, but i bought in a Xmas market a little no-fancy-branded one used by professionals. The wax thing was about 10euro and the refills like 1.5euro or 2euro most for more expensive wax types (i tried a few).
Actually i really like it and it was very very cheap =)

I’d definitely skip this one and look for cheaper ones, in the end they do the same thing, just heaten up some damn wax!
And well wax is a bit painful at first but then you get used to it and the body hairs start growing more sparingly and feel a little softer, so it will hurt even less.
To finish off my body hair routine i bought an epilator machine too.. now i’m set for life =)

  10. Wax is really painful for me. Hey, Nero may I know how epilator work?

  11. Lilmiznutcase says:

I am literally about to try this (waiting for the wax to heat up. It was extremely reassuring to see you not scream when you pulled the strip off.

  12. rr says:

can you refill the cartidrige with your own wax?

  13. […] contraria. Sí, no es fácil imaginarse cómo funciona esto, pero en Lipglossing podréis leer una review completísima del kit, con videos. Easy Wax sirve tanto para piernas y brazos como ingles y axilas, porque hay cartuchos […]

Stay up the great work! You realize, lots of persons are hunting round for
this information, you could aid them greatly.

This depilator doesn’t really help me. I guess my hair is too soft for it to really take it away.
