We’ve all seen products that stake lofty claims on the packaging and using them can often leave behind a single raised eyebrow of “hmm… really?” Take The Day Off*… really does take the day off. And the night before that if you’ve been a lazy sink-dodging mare.
With dry hands, scoop out a 10p piece sized blog and massage over dry skin to remove all traces of makeup. The solid balm transforms into a silky oil that glides over skin with ease.
I’m a long-standing cleansing oil fan and my face simply doesn’t feel clean to me until I’ve double cleansed. Cleansing balms are something I’ve bought in the past but I generally prefer to use a pump bottle of oil than scoop product from a jar.
Last time I returned from holiday and opened my suitcase to find oil-soaked clothes put pay to that little preference.
I’m also finding balms to be more compatible with my Clarisonic. The slip feels a little dryer than with my usual oils (though still perfectly workable) and I use my delicate brush head in conjunction with a low speed setting before washing off.
It leaves my skin feeling smooth and squeaky clean. Drier skins may find this a little drying but oilier types should appreciate the product’s ability to cleanse thoroughly without too much stripping of the skin’s natural oils.
Finally? It leaves not a scrap of residue behind. It emulsifies fully with water into a creamy, milky fluid that washes away with ease.
It’s unscented which will please many (though I wouldn’t have minded a touch of fragrance tbh), gives me absolutely NO eye irritation (despite massaging it into my lashes!) and contains no mineral oils. Win.

I love this too!! I’ve been using it for almost 2 years now and it’s really good. I don’t use it everyday cause I’ve got a seperate cleansing lotion but once in a while I love to get that squeaky clean feeling and this balm does just that!! it’s really good and leaves my skin feeling soft not tight. it also removes my eye make up without stinging. x x

I would love to try something like this, but at that price I just couldn’t afford it. I’ve been looking for a much cheaper alternative, at the moment I use Body Shop cleansers and toners but everyone seems to be talking about oil cleansers. I have a really oily T Zone and to me oily cleanser and oil T Zone just shouts ‘No, don’t do it!’
Personally, I love Shu’s cleansing oil. It’s the first and only one I’ve ever tried. I’m pretty new to double cleansing though – I’m still on my first bottle of cleanser! But I love it.
I use ‘Take The Day Off for Lids, Lashes and Lips’ and it’s soo amazing!! I get dry skin around my eyes sometimes and it’s the only product that doesn’t irritate them 🙂 xx
I got two jars of this at half-price a year ago, and was very pleasantly surprised. It really is great.
I’m not a huge Clinique fan, but right now I’m going through a cleansing lotion phase. I might have to buy this!
I do love Clinique skin products, and while this is quite pricy I am actually tempted- how do you feel it compares to Liz Earle Cleanse & polish though? As I’ve been toying with the idea of buying that too…
Funny, I had no idea Clinique had this, I thought it was a new product! Never used a cleansing balm though, but it looks like a good thing for travelling.
I used to use this a couple of years ago, but decided to give it to my sister (for some reason!) Reading this review has made me want to try it again (I had to LOL about the ‘lazy sink-dodging mare’ comment!) 🙂

I wonder how long the 125ml of this balm lasts in comparison to, say, 200ml of MUJI cleansing oil? Hm hmmm… I am feeling tempted, I won’t lie 😉

I am a die-hard fan of the Liz Earle cleanse and polish, my absolute desert island cleanser. This sounds wonderful though – v tempting! Would also love to hear how you feel it compares….xx
I LOVE Clinique’s Take the Day Off cleansing balm! I was a little wary of cleansing oils/balms, since I have oily skin and thought it would mean breakouts. But the TTDO balm actually cleans my skin better than any cleanser I’ve ever used! I gently rub it on my eyelashes and it gets waterproof mascara off with ease, and gets all of my sunscreen and foundation off as well. Good stuff!
I thought this was a new product too! I’ll give this a go when my take off the day remover for lids, lashes and lips is fin!
