I have a smoothie-maker rapidly gathering dust in the back of my cupboard and I’ve decided to brush it off and put it into action this month!
I’m gonna feed my skin from the inside out with some beautifying smoothie recipes consisting of a whole host of revolting sounding ingredients! Don’t laugh… check me out at the end of the month when you’re all mistaking me for err… *insert someone with really amazing skin here*.
Anyway, you get the jist.
My first Smoothie is gonna be from skincare guru himself, Dr. Murad. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years ago and listened to him talk about his theories behind the importance of ‘getting’ your water from your food as well as your drinks/general fluid intake. He’s a fascinating man and I’m looking forward to trying out his Water Secret Smoothie. I may have to hold my nose as I drink it though no?
He says:
The delicious smoothie you are about to enjoy is a wonderful way to give your body Internal Care by flooding your system with the building blocks of healthy strong cells. That’s why this smoothie provides you with:
Amino Acids: the building blocks of cell-building proteins.
Lecithin: a source for a key ingredient in cell membranes called phosphatidycholine.
Antioxidants: to protect cells from free-radical damage.
Essential Fatty Acids: to help cells attract life-sustaining water.
If you wanna join me (go on, be brave!) here’s the recipe for Dr. Murad’s The Water Secret Smoothie.
- 1/2 cup blueberry juice (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or unsweetened frozen)
- 1 tablespoon lecithin granules
- 1 small banana
- 3 to 4 cubes of ice (optional)
- Stevia extract or Agave Nectar (optional) to tast
I’ve just picked up my lecithin granules from here with free delivery, blueberry juice is looking a little elusive at the moment but the rest should be simple enough to find.
Hope it’s not revolting!
You can read more about Dr. Murad’s theories on looking and feeling younger in his book, The Water Secret* (£12.99)
Do you ever make skin-beautifying smoothies? One of those ideas you always toy with but never see through?

I love smoothies! I have a berry one that I make every day which is delicious, it feels so good knowing it is way better (nutrition-wise) than a coke x
That one actually sounds quite nice. Lecithin doesn’t takse of anything, and i’ just glad to see a recipe that isn’t filled with dirty, disgusting banana.
Fellow banana hater?
It doesn’t sound bad at all?? We never have enough fruit in our house (greedy teenage brothers) to make smoothies but my local shopping centre has a Zumo juice/smoothie place and theirs are delish. I love ones with coconut and pineapple in, so yummy xx
Have never specifically made them for beautifying, more an attempt to stop early morning hoggage of sausages and the like.
My current fave is light choc milk, a banana and scoop of instant espresso – sets me up till lunch though no doubt does my fizzog no good :/
Doesnt sound revolting, but not particularly appetising either :p
My mum does smoothies in her blender sometimes, last time it was honey mango and milk!
I am really just not a smoothie person. Also cold things give me asthma attacks XD The only exception is Bubble Tea!! There’s a shop I know that doesn’t use syrup, they just put fresh fruit and ice into the blender. Lychee and pineapple? I’m there!
It sounds good (apart from the banana)! M&S sell Blueberry juice, although it might be sweetened (but then you could skip the faddy agave nectar)
Our smoothie maker is in the same place as yours, probably covered in even more dust! Smoothies always seem to sound a lot better than they actually taste :/
It actually sounds pretty good. I like brown rice syrup as a sweetener rather than agave nectar, but it’s all a matter of taste and not spiking your insulin. If you get really adventurouse, you could throw a handful of spinach or kale in there with it.
Looks tasty from here! I’d personally leave out the stevia or agave, though, as both make me sick as a dog (rashes and terrible migraines).
check out what Bridget Jones has to say about smoothies and having a stomach full of pureed fruit…
So excited about this post – I discovered this afternoon that we’ve had a smoothie maker for the past 3 months! Can’t wait to get blending now 😉
Xx
This sounds good- I’ll have to give it a whirl. My girls adore
smoothies of all flavours and hues bar green so this fits the bill. Thanks!
