We all know we need to wear it, we all have our favourite brand(s) and we all know that we need to reapply it throughout the day…
…but how often do you replace your bottle of sunscreen?
I go through about two bottles a year, so I replace them as and when I finish them. Though, this hasn’t always been the case. In my early twenties, I’d use a sunscreen dug out from the back of a cupboard quite happily… only pausing to give it a quick sniff!
So tell me, how often do you replace your sunscreen?

While I’m asking… does anyone else keep their sunscreen in the fridge in the Summer?
Sunscreen does expire so it’s a good idea to change them at least every season. I go through a few tubes of sunscreen a year so I change them pretty often.
They usually have expiry dates and all sunscreens are inactive after one year of being opened – whichever comes first!
I said once a year – I never seem to run out of it, but as I use it for snowboarding and don’t want to totally fry my face, I get a new one in the winter and use it through the summer and through to the next winter hols.
It is tempting to keep it in the back of the cupboard and bring it out a summer later!
But I tend to go for cheap suncream (because it works just as good) and then throw it away every 6 months and replace it. Thats if I haven’t used it all up by then.

Fairly sure some only ever gets bought when summer comes round :/ I just ensure I have some on holiday, as thats the only time I’ll be sitting in the sun for long periods of time.
…My face on the other hand is always SPFed up.
i know it expires but i only ever use it on holiday (i work inside and am rarely if ever outside during the day coupled with the fact that it rains 99.9% of the time in Ireland) so i tend to use it for two years. I just can’t bear to throw something that smells and seems fine out when its only been barely used.
I live in a tropical climate and the sun can be harsh, so I wear sunscreen everyday and go through maybe 3-4 8oz bottles a year (I probably don’t wear enough, but sunscreen can get freaking expensive so I just cover my exposed areas). But now I’m hearing stories about certain ingredients in a lot of drugstore sunscreens actually encouraging rather than preventing skin cancer, which is disheartening: http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/ I’m taking it with a grain of salt since I haven’t actually read the studies that site is referring to yet, but if it’s true then all of my sunscreens are kaput–they’ve got oxybenzone and vitamin A/retinyl palmitate in ’em.
Once a year. I buy new one (or two of them at the same time) in spring when sun starts to burn more. And I throw them out when we hit winter.
I don’t keep the sunscreen, but definitely the aftersun goes in the fridge during the summer! Xxx
I said more than once – we go through 3-4 bottles per season in our little household. But in fairness we also have a boy who gets covered in screen every single day, as he plays outsides a lot.
But we don’t store them in the fridge, I think we’d forget to apply and if we remembered, it’d be too cold for the little one 😀
I said once a year…I normally never finish a bottle so I just buy a new bottle come summer time. However I am now starting to wear sunscreen a lot more often (getting wrinkle worries) so I think this is going to increase! I am looking for sunscreen that doesn’t block my pores or smell of, well, sunscreen!
I don’t have to replace it as I inherited very pale skin, my son is red haired and we DRINK sunscreen !!! I go through 4 to 5 big bottles just in 1 summer for my little family of 4 …

I wear sunscreen every day so I go through a bottle quite quickly. I replace even time a bottle runs out or starts smelling weird.
I dont keep in the refrigerator but I do keep it in my bag because I seem to apply it more when it’s available.
Getting the tops of the hands before a long drive is especially helpful.
I should say about once a year, or sooner if I manage to use it up!
Btw, I ‘ve never heard of the fridge thing… is it just for cooling purposes when applied…? But wouldn’t it make the formula thicker or sth (being an ignorant here obv…) ?
