Make Up Store Haul & FOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On May - 24 - 2010

So you’ve probably all heard by now about the new Make Up Store which has recently opened on Carnaby Street in London.  Make Up Store are a swedish brand, though interestingly the products that I bought state that they are made in Canada.  They also operate out of Westfield in west London and last time I was in the city, I couldn’t resist trying a few products out!

Nice, sleek packaging!

Orion (£15.00) is a cream highlighter with a punch of colour.  It actually reminds me a little of what NARS Orgasm Illuminator could have been if they’d upped the amp on the pigmentation.  Perhaps a touch more peach though…

It’s shimmery, but not too glittery.  As I was browsing through the High Tech Lighters instore, I noticed that many contained enough glitter to render them unsuitable for daytime wear which was a big shame ‘cos some of the shades were magnificent!  I struggled to work out how best to apply it at first and in a fit of WHATEVER I just grabbed a synthetic Kabuki, tapped it on the surface of the cream and buffed into my cheeks.  I’m pleased with the effect!  I think it would be especially lovely ontop of bronzer.

I also picked up an eye pencil.  I’ve been looking for a dark navy with a touch of shimmer… and Deep Blue Sea (£8.50) fits the bill nicely!

It’s nice and dark with a heavy black base, so doesn’t scream “coloured eyeliner”… but there’s more than enough colour there to add a bit of interest to a smoky eye!

Texture is creamy but surprisingly long-lasting.  I didn’t need to warm the pencil up before using (one of my pet hates) so this gets a thumbs up from me!

I also picked up a nice peach blusher that looked true to colour without being too coral hued.

Passion (£14.00) is a fairly neutral peach that my cool toned skin can just about get away with.  It’s far more pigmented than I imagined it would be so I do have to apply with a light hand.

It’s shimmery but perfectly suitable for daywear.

I’m pleased with the pieces I bought and the staff in the store were helpful without being overbearing.  I’ll definitely be popping back next time I’m in town.

Here’s a quick FOTD showing Make Up Store’s Passion blush on the cheeks… I’m not sure why I look quite so crazy-eyed!

Scary lady!

Have you tried any Make Up Store goodies yet?

This is a beautiful look on you.

  3. Georgie says:

This reminds me of Inglot in a way. Colours look stunning on you! Can’t wait to check it out.

Make up store is by far my favorite brand. They’re bold without going to far. Fun but wearable.
However, the comment above might have hit the nail, there are similarities between Make up store and Inglot that I can’t help but wonder are just a coincidence.

  5. Lillian says:

I really want to try some of their stuff. When i’m not skint i’ll have to head down to Carnaby Street! I really like the look of the ‘high tech lighter’ so i’m interested to see the other colours 🙂

  8. Connie says:

I have a blush and a couple of eyeshadows from them. They’re not bad at all! Unfortunately, MU Store got closed down in my country. They weren’t doing so well 🙁

  9. liloo says:

You are looking hot. Can I take you out sometime?

  10. Rae says:

Lol! I find it amusing that these products are made in Canada… especially because I’ve never seen the line over here! 😛 I love, love, love the packaging of these items. (Yep, I can be a bit of a packaging monster. But really, you can’t blame me for liking pretty things! Everyone likes pretty things!)

  11. Rebecca says:

I got some Makeup Store eyeshadows when I was in Norway. They have big ones and little ones…I can’t remember the exact ones. I’d recommend the smaller pots with screw lids as they seem to be more pigmented and apply really easily.
    The packaging is gorgeous.

  12. Jasmine says:

I think the warmth of the blush really complements your green eyes! You’re looking fabulous — meow!

  13. Patricia says:

I live in Sweden, so I peruse through their stuff once in a while… I have some brushes (flat foundation, e/s blending (nr 109) and a small concealer brush), four e/s from the Cybershadow collection (Metallic Wave, Rumble, Golden and Silver) and the cover-all mix trio.
The e/s are very pigmented and easy to work with… some you need a very light hand on, like metallic wave which is a deep blue, it comes off almost a creamy e/s.. I don’t know if this makes any sense. My pet peeve is exactly the packaging though! You can’t tell which colour you’re picking without turning the package upside down or opening them… it’s all fun and games until you start accumulating some of these…
The brushes are ok, I can’t compare with Mac brushes because I don’t own any. They are a bit pricey but I’ve experienced no shedding, and they’ve kept their shape (OTOH, my oldest MUS brush is about a year old…)
The cover-all mix is the holy graal of concealer/correctors for many people here. I find it a bit hard to work with because you can easily get a cakey finish, but with good (and I mean good) moisturising underneath, prewarming a bit of product on the back of your hand and (again) a light hand, it’s fine (and powder to set it on my combined skin… otherwise it glides into my fine lines).
    I could swatch the e/s if anyone’s interested…

  14. I fricken LOVE the look of that highlighter. And well, everything you bought! And the packaging is so gorgeous.

  15. Lita says:

As a black girl, I was very impressed by the pigment. tried a lovely blusher and bought a gorgeous red lipstick. recommended.

  16. Sara says:

As a Swedish girl, I love Make Up Store.
Their eyeshadows are really great – many MAC dupes.
I adore their nail polishes as well, they’re really great.
And the Cover-All Mix is the best thing since… I don’t know. But frickin’ awesome.
