January Essentials – Bargain Brushes at Boots

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 12 - 2010

Ruby & Millie make some decent brushes at reasonable prices, and this one is my favourite.  It’s great for gel eyeliners and brow powders… firm but supple.

The Ruby & Millie I-Define brush is priced at £6.00 in Boots, but is currently available for a recession-busting £1.00 with a No7/Ruby & Millie till spit*.

I’ve bought a couple since the offer’s been on and plan on getting some more of the Boots No7 Eyeshadow brushes which I enjoy using alongside my MAC 239.

The Boots No7 Eyeshadow brush is priced at £5.75 rendering it a 75p super-bargain with a till spit.  Only larger stores appear to carry these brushes though.  You can usually find them on the bottom shelf of the No7 stand (rather than amongst the general makeup brushes) housed in cardboard boxes.

*till spit = a voucher automatically printed by the till when you spend over £5 in a transaction.  I’m a geek and purposefully split my transactions into roughly £5 amounts to maximize my till spits *blush*

Till spits are valid until the 31st January, so get shopping!

Have you tried either of these brushes?  Do you recommend any other ’till spit’ bargains?

New reader, but thanks for recommending this!

  2. ooo those £5 off vouchers are lethal!

  3. I was about to ask you what the heck a till split was!!! But then I saw the little asterisk. Sounds like CVS Extrabucks and Walgreens Register Rewards here in the states! =)

Ooo, thanks for this! I have a couple of those £5 vouchers mooching around in my bag doing nothing.
I’m always after new make-up brushes, so I’ll go have a look.

I don’t like the ruby and millie brushes. For me they just don’t work. However the no7 ones are pretty good. I haven’t tried the eyeshadow one yet and i might just do so. I’m on a serious brush kick at the moment. xxx

I’m sure the staff at Boots thought I was crazy yesterday, I did the ‘split my transactions’ trick so I could get as many freebies as possible!

Im loving those vouchers too, I bought a nail polish from No7 yesterday for about a pound. I have a Ruby & Millie lip brush that I bought a yr ago but it fell apart which has put me off since but for a pound why not.

I’ve used both Ruby and Millie brushes and Boots brushes and you know I had that mishap with my Ruby and Millie one.

To anyone who wants to buy these brushes I would say buy the Boots eyeshadow ones (there are two, one which is flat and one which is fluffy) and they are both about £6, so a quid with the voucher off thingy. The more you clean the Boots brushes, the softer they get and the easier they are to use.

Re. Ruby and Millie, I have used their foundation brush, their eyeshadow brush and the liner brush you’ve got up there. The eyeshadow brush is soft but not as soft as the Boots one. The foundation brush is perfect for me, sturdy enough to pick up foundation but soft enough to apply it the way I like. The liner brush is a godsend for stuff like the Stila smudgepots and Bobbi Brown’s gel liners.

Lol I was wondering what you were on about with the “till spit” stuff, thought you had some secret Boots deal that i didn’t know about haha!! I tend to forget to use my £5 vouchers, or at least until they’ve expired! The problem is my local Boots doesn’t do Ruby & Millie, and i’m not terribly excited my no.7, however, i must get back into using up those vouchers, even if i just overload on lipglosses!!! And great idea about splitting your purchases!!!

I do like that Ruby and Millie i-define brush, I had it free when it used to be £5 (and with a till split of course!)
It’s great to use with brow powders.

I love the No7 brushes and I always use my £5 coupon for them but next time I’ll try the Ruby and Millie ones to see how they compare.
    PS: love your blog
