I bought some Bobbi Brown Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadows a couple of months ago and thought I’d share my thoughts on them…
The packaging is lovely, nice heavyweight glass jars…. they feel substantial and chunky!
Brown Metal
Starry Purple
Starry Night
Goldstone
Antique Gold
The swatches…
Disappointed is my feeling on these. They look beautiful in the jar, truly. But they’re *so* sheer… the swatches show a good number of swipes to get them pigmented enough to photograph.
I love the idea behind them, and I do wear them… I wear them underneath simillar toned powder shades and the only purpose they really serve is to add a bit of sparkle. You also have to be really careful not to end up with glitter all over your face when applying these. My favourite is Goldstone, which unfortunately, is the biggest glitter dropper of all of them.
I’m simply left with the feeling that they could have been so much more.
Do you own any of these? How do you wear them? Any tips to make me love them?
Oh, no! Bet they were expensive too! I don’t own any BB products at all (sob!) but I would’ve expected them to be literally perfect! Hope you get to like them better. Do they at least make your eyeshadow stay on longer, or make the colour stay truer for longer?
I absolutely love your blog!!! Thanks for the review and sorry that they did not work out for you. I tested a few at the BB counter and was not very impressed as well.
By the way, what camera do you use? I have a Canon 40D and have been trying to take self portraits and close-ups with that thing but my arms felt like they were about to break and I could never get anything in focus. I had the 60mm macro lens on. So I resorted to using my dinky lil’ point and shoot 🙂 Would love to hear some tips from you because your FOTDs are gorgeous!
I agree with your reviews just from testing instore. I had such high hopes for these and was seriously underwhelmed. 🙁
I have the limited edition mini goldstone palette, which is gorgeous. But the goldstone shade is the one I wear least as it doesn’t have a lot of pigment and is very glittery. I don’t find it drops badly though, it’s just too sheer. But it came with Mineral Dust long-wear cream shadow, which is a lovely soft grey and Caviar Ink gel eyeliner, which is great too. So I love the palette for those.
Antique Gold doesn’t even look like an antique gold colour, it looks like a grey base with gold sparkles. I’m glad you swatched these, I was contemplating one of them but considering they don’t even look metallic, just sparkly, it doesn’t seem worth it.
@RedTiger21 – Nope, not really… bleh, bleh, bleh.
