I’ve just ordered OPI’s ‘Absolutely Alice’ from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland collection (already available in the US – I think us UK folks get it at the end of Jan). I love my blues, and this glitter bomb of a shade caught my eye last month.
I was tempted by Mad as a Hatter aswell but I wanted to get my hands on some Orly shades so cooled my heels for now incase I’m like SO OVER glitter in a few weeks time.
I’ll put my hands up and say that on the whole, I’m kinda disappointed by this collection. The Alice in Wonderland theme surely opened up an amazing prospect for some off the wall shades and this feels a little like an opportunity missed you know? I mean.. 4 colours, and 2 of them are reds.
Any of these caught your eye?
i just got mine! i got the mini’s of all four so i could “kind of” indulge haha. can’t wait to wear them 😀
@Kellie – Can’t wait to hear what you think of them Kellie! I was super tempted by the mini set… kinda wish I’d indulged now just so that I know what I’m missing! LOL
did you buy online? i haven’t purchased OPI before, any suggested retailers? xx
@Sarah – I did! Are you an eBayer? I bought mine from JolieBeautyStore. They always work out cheaper even with postage… I pay around £5/£6 a bottle. xx
I’ve ordered Absolutely Alice and Mad as a Hatter and I tottaly agree with you. Swatch pics on a forum I post on swayed me or I wouldn’t have bothered.
@VexInTheCity – but let’s face it… it doesn’t really take very much to tempt us does it? 😛
I ordered Mad as a Hatter but fancied more of the China Glaze Wizard of Oz stuff x
@Charlie – Oooh, looking forward to hearing what you think of Mad as a Hatter?! x
Yeah i must admit it’s not very much of a collection is it? I definitely would have expected some green, yellow and paler blue shades, not sure why really, just would. I do quite like the look of those reds though, having said all that!!
@Redtiger21 – Reds are borrrrrrrring. Well, they’re not… but I’m kinda off them at the minute. Really loving blues and I’m trying so hard to make yellows work, but they look like puke on me.
I felt the same as you, while the polishes are certainly pretty i can’t help being a bit disappointed by the collection. it’s alice in wonderland for goodness sake, it would be a great time to go really over the top!
@Lillian – such a shame isn’t it? xx
love the colour.. i hope you dont mind me asking, but where do you buy your OPI nail polishes from?
x
@Rosa – Don’t mind at all! Unless I’m attacked by a surge of the “I want it nows” I usually get them on eBay from US sellers, my favs are Warbid and JolieBeautyStore xx
I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on Alice being a missed opportunity. I would have loved to see what these brands could have come up with if they really got into the idea of Wonderland!
R x
@Rebecca – The OPI team need a kick in the shins. It smacks of total laziness… “Oh lets jump on the Alice in Wonderland bandwagon, but not give any thought to the actual collection”. x
It seems so odd to have two reds in a collection of just 4 polishes, especially when there’s so much of an ‘anything goes’ feel to nail colours at the moment. I mean, I never expected pale greens or yellow to be a hit… and they were.
A bit of a shame.
I do love that blue though, think I’ll have to pick it up when it makes its way here!
@DINKY London – Daft isn’t it… I can’t wait to daub that blue glitter all over my nails, I’m trying to work out how “spring-like” blue glitter is though, I’m in such a Christmas/Winter rut. Can’t get away from the purples and silvers at the minute.
I like the look of Mad Hatter – going on a mission to find a 4set of minis, try a bit of everything!
@Phoebe – the mini set is GREAT value… I was terribly tempted, but postage from the US made it an expensive gamble if I ended up only liking the blue, so I just plumped for that instead – come back and let me know if the reds are anything special!
i’m surprised ther isn’t a pale matte blue..i agree bit crappy lol
@desiigirl87 – It’s a shame there’s only 4 shades too!
Very true… although the purple looks really pretty.
@Ndoodles – the mad hatter one? Yeah… it does… but it’s a bit multi-coloured glitter generic. Although, I could well be wrong when some more swatch shots come out.
I totally agree. It seemed like they couldn’t be bothered. With a theme as exciting as Alice, they really could have done more. Surely a Cheshire cat colour or the Catepillar, even the rabbit, her cat or mushrooms. i don’t know and i’m not impressed with the other colours either 🙁
@Cherrychan108 – Yes, yes yes!! Bloody hell, it makes me annoyed to think of those missed opportunities.
I’m in agreement. So much they could have done with this collection and they completely missed the mark! The 2 glitters look interesting, particularly Alice, however the lack of creativity that went in to this collection just leaves me a little bitter towards them all.
@Nicole – I am excited to get my hands on Alice (ooo-er!), but the rest…. I can take or leave. x
I bought a buttload of LUSH this month, so I have to wait…but I cannot waaaait to get this set!
I’m a new viewer 😀 Please check out my blog and follow me! Tell your friends, cuz I only have 3 followers 🙁
@Paloma – I want some LUSH now! I bought a £10 grab bag last year and I’m still using it up…. want more though! Welcome to the blogging world 🙂 You didn’t leave a link to your blog Chica? 🙁
Yeah… kind of dissapointing. Although, I haven’t seen much hype about this collection; on blogs or otherwise!
@Jeweled Thumb – yeah, it’s been quiet hasn’t it? I’ve seen a couple of swatches on the fab nail blogs… but being an Alice in Wonderland themed collection, I thought it’d be EVERYWHERE! Have they released the Hong Kong Collection yet? I haven’t heard much about that since it’s announcement either…. not like China Glaze who seem to be soaring atm.
