Not loving this one quite as much as Glasgow a few days ago… but it’s definitely worth a spot on here as I consider this to be a slightly unusual colour. It doesn’t look as though it would be deserving of the description ‘unusual’ but it is. Ruby by Mavala is a shade that upon first glance, seems to be your standard warm toned dark pink in the bottle. However, it shows up far more red toned with a warm brown hint on my nails.
It’s particularly worth a mention as I would class this as a ‘work safe’ red, it doesn’t scream for attention and sits quite demurely on the end of my fingers simply looking polished and pretty. It’s also not a super high gloss finish, the above photo was taken after 2 coats. Personally, I prefer a more glossy finish but that can be remedied with a couple of swipes of your favourite top coat.
Definitely one for the collection.
I like Mavala polishes- they have a really good base coat (dries really fast) and a super-glossy top coat. The red is lovely!
It’s a gorgeous colour! Really suits you! 🙂 x
Hmm… pitty its not more shiny.. i like my nails shiny. It almost looks matte!! Speaking of shiny.. i find alot of OPI polishes dry non shiny (when they are wet they look great.. then…) really annoys me. I need to get a good top coat!
Hi BeautyJunkie! I will definitely be checking out their base coat… Nail Tek isn’t really working for me, so thanks for the recommendation!
@tackyblueeyeshadow – thank you, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
Hey Tali, I love shiny nails too – the whole matte nail trend is totally underwhelming me at the minute… You know how some polishes just make your mani look unfinished without a top coat… this Mavala shade isn’t as bad as that, but it’s certainly not a high gloss finish.
Top coats…. Beauty Junkie recommended the Mavala one which I’m going to check out. I’m interested in Seche but I just can’t bring myself to pay the £8 odd for it in Sallys…
At the moment, I’m using Sally Hansen’s French Manicure Insta-Dri Anti-Yellow top coat which is perfectly adequate and does make your nails ‘touch’ dry very quickly. I picked it up in Savers for £1.49.
Really really lovely colour – its def a safe red too – not too flashy!
